It's real possible, but to my knowledge Weber hasn't said that he's only interested in one place, just that he wants to be on a contender.

Personally, if I'm trading what it'd take to get Weber, I'm telling Poile that I want to hammer out a new deal before the trade is completed.

And it's not as known, or clear cut as say, Jordan Staal, Carolina could have waited the year out & lost nothing, but chose to act now losing assets.

Any team that trades for Weber has to have a deal contingent with him. If not, it's an ultimate risk. You can ruin your franchise if you trade off a nucleus of talent, and then Weber goes elsewhere.

I wouldn't want to be Poile, he doesn't have much leverage here.

Ok, that's true, however we would be naive to think that sports teams and agents don't speak to each other. Heck, Weber could just put it on twitter, problem solved.

I'm sure some things happen off the record and behind the scenes. But outright negotiating with a team that doesn't own the rights to the player, probably doesn't happen without permission. The Agent has too much to lose.

Why so serious?

Not, it could have been a factor but not the only one........Pretty sure anyone of us would do the same thing to make sure they were happy to, no sense is having a pissed off spouse all the time reminding you they don't like the place you picked to play.

That's when your own players take the que and call on their own, nothing against that from happening.

Well thats not what I was saying, and I agree with that.

Side note: I would love to have an angry Weber on this team for the right slightly overpaying price

Carolina knew that he'd sign. Teams can't talk directly to players, but Jordan can talk to his big brother, Eric and then Eric can talk to Jim Rutherford.

I don't think he's in a hurry because he has the control if he doesn't want more then a 1 year deal right now he won't sign anything more.

That's why Nashville has to pick a date before camp begins to move him so they get something in return or at least more then they'd get at the TDL when only so many teams would be able to fit him under the cap at that time.

I know, but like I stated last night with Suter, the Preds should have done this sooner, I know it's easy to say now, but I really would have bet anything last year that Suter would leave, if he liked it so much, he would have committed, there was no commitment, I wonder what the Preds offered him last year to stay $$$ & term wise, we'll never know, but if a fair offer or 2 are made beforehand & turned down, like Burke in Toronto says "it's all about assets" and a small market can't afford them, l;et alone a larger market.

So Voracek declined arbitration, what does this mean exactly, either it's a long-term deal or we look to trade him?

I'm sure they have chats like that without actually spelling it out directly for some players to do it.

The longer he waits to trade Weber the less he'll get in return, unless that team can negotiate first. he has zero leverage on Weber.

No, they could sign him to another one year deal.

The leverage Poile has with Weber is that he is the best defenseman in the NHL. And he can leverage teams against each other in trade offers.

He doesn't have as much as, say Howson or Murray. Both Ryan and Nash are under contract for a couple years. But teams will trade for Weber, and pay through the nose to do it.

You think he's looking for 3.5-4 per year? And is that what he's worth given the craziness that has become the market?

If they Flyers traded for Weber, and assuming the new CBA will have a limit of 7-8 years on contracts, I'm not sure I can buy that if the Flyers offered a 13Y deal for 8.5-9M a year, he wouldn't sign it. And with all the front loaded money you can possibly do, which may also be scaled back some in the next CBA. Holding out for his UFA year may not be the wisest move considering there's no telling what exactly the new rules/limits could be.

I don't think he has as much as he would have, say a year ago, no one will "gut there team" for 1 year, if they do, they are crazy, a sign and trade actually would behoove both Nashville & another team.

I think he'll sign a deal similar to the one David Perron just inked. He's got a hit of $3.8mm now. Voracek's similar and will likely get in that neighborhood

If the Flyers stand pat at were they are now they have a minimum of $14 coming off the cap in Timo, Hartnell, fedetenko, lilja and Shelly. Walker's 1.7 comes off the books as well. Keep in mind the Cap # will probably come down, not go up.

The Flyers have Wellwood, Rinaldo and Simmons and possible Voracek as RFA's to esign next year. the would clearly have the $$$ to land Weber if he indeed wanted to come East. Unless you can get a really good deal at the deadline and could sign him Long term they should stand pat on Weber IMO.

I'm trying to imagine my female doging about Edmonton if I were making $5 million a year

don't think so, but again that's fantasy anyway
