Not really.

I'm saying that spitting on Kovalev while on the other hand say that signing Jagr at 4.5 would be a good idea, is ridiculous.

44pts in 74 games in his last season (Ott and Pitts combined). And he wasn't playing top line minutes with Alfredsson or Spezza.
- Pecafan Fan

Cause he at no time earned or deserved them? And a few good players in Pitts for him to play with, and he didn't light it up there either?

I think your maths are far marty.

He had 27 pts with Ott and 7 with Pitt for a total of 34 in 74 games, the previous year he had 49 pts in 77 games.

Gomez is at least still an AHL calibre player, Loafalev? not so much.
- eihcnerf

As much all you Kovy haters out there thinks it's outrageous to even think of Kovy back in the line up, I think you guys are just hypocrites.

Nobody and I mean NOBODY can actually stand here and say #27 was not an elite player with the habs on his last year. I admit Kovy was a frustrating player to watch on his off nights, many questions regarding his attitude within the team, but when he decided to play...We all had a beer in one hand and the other holding the " do not disturb" sign up.

Keep in mind, this wouldn't be the same scenario for him as the entire headquarter have changed and many players gone.

I'm sorry but I don't think this is soooo crazy of an idea at all.
I am with you on this Gilling. I would rather have a "wanting Kovalev to play for the Habs" on a 3rd line for 2M/season then Scotty Gomez.... Sorry but Scott had his chance to prove something for way to long now.

no problem.

glad to help. I have wanted to get back to the park a few times the last two weeks but the heat is not conducive to this. could you help me out and see if Davey will let me sit in your seats on the bench?

IMO Jagr has been the better player, and still is.

Have to ask; do you really think the team's as bad as they played last season?

Not saying they're great, or on their way to that this season. But are they as bad as they showed last season?

- EricEngels

First, tks for taking time to exchange with us, much appreciated.
Second, yes. Yes they are as bad as they showed.

- Only 1 line, which will have problems to repeat cause other teams will adjust.
- Is Bourque really on our top 6? Yikes... I'd like to see him on our bottom 6, so in case of an unjury, he can move up. Otherwise, do you really want Moen or Armstrong on the top 6 for more than 1 week?
- Better bottom six I agree. That wasn't difficult to do...
- One of the worst D core in the league. And don't tell me Markov will be healthy. I'll be happy if he still play past X-MAS.
- Price was good, but not good enough. How many games did they lose in the 3rd when they had a lead? Not saying it's all his fault, but someone has to close the door.

So yes, I expect another lottery pick next year.

Listen, you wouldn't bring him back thinking he would provide what you hoped he would previously. Help the PP and the like. For $1.5M, you wouldn't do it?

I miscalculated.

But my point still stands. Signing Kovalev isn't a better idea than signing Jagr. And vice-versa.

He didnt really do much of this in his last year in Montreal, i believe he is done, and best left in the KHL.

I wouldn't. I'd rather see Leblanc in the line up than Kovy at 39yrs old

I don't remember how many points they finished the season with.

But whatever, everything was such a complete disaster last season that I doubt next season can be as bad.

- Pecafan Fan

but you are assuming pacioretty, cole and desharnais will duplicate last years #'s. if bergevin doesn't find a bonafide winger to play with plekanec and gionta, the deshrnais line will see the best shutdown lines teams have to throw at them and the canadiens will be an easy team to defend against. and with this teams history, we cannot expect an injury free season and there's still no depth to fill any hole an injury will create.

but besides that, i agree. can't be as bad as last season. as long as we retain a lottery position i think they have the potential to move up a spot or 2 in the standings.

When they were young? No doubt about that and it's not even debatable. Jagr is a sure shot hall of famer.

But he's 41 now.

No it is a much worse idea, so does he challenge Gionta for the C and break up the room again?

You also assume gionta/plek and whoever plays with them are complete poop next year. Gionta was injured for most of the season. Habs will finish 11th in the conference...slight improvement

Well, the good point to this is that the habs wont make it to the playoffs to be able to watch these two disappear.
- eihcnerf

Hah! Plek's defensive game is 100% there in the playoffs and he still produced (although minimally). As for Semin... well, that one's a real dissapearing act.
