I read next year as the next one. Starting in October. There is very little chance he is ready for that after taking last year off. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if it was two more years.
Look at the centers picked last year. Are Strome and Scheifele going to be ready this year? Huberdeau...probably but he didn't miss an important year of development. - stormeyAlterEgo
I would think the habs rush him next year to start the 2013-14 season, if his full season this year goes well.
I think if any 3 of those guys were Hab or Leaf prospects they would be in the lineup this year, not saying the should be, but you knowthey would be. |

but yeah as for Ryan its just a dream, he's probably now goin to follow his fellow americans and only go where he wants to go....and i doubt MTL is such a place....plus i dont think the asking price would be worth it...altho there is alot of good D prospects on the Habs....jus dont touch Tinordi - Habitants98

Trade Weber for anything that isn't a cap hit (a 6th pick would please me). Give Diaz a chance next year and see what he can do.
Let St-Denis have the 7th spot so he can have some ice-time in case of injuries (-->Markov)
Find a way to get rid of Kaberle and give his PP assignments to Diaz. If it doesn't work, well, here comes the lottery pick!
Give a 2-year contract to Shaone Morrisson. - _nay_
That rounds up the top 6 nicely... |

Chicago wants another top 6 player. Trade Plekanec for Saad and their first rounder next year, in a very deep draft. Go with Eller and DD as #1 and #2. Draft McKinnon, Shinkaruk, Monahan, Jones or Barkov next year with our top 5 pick. Draft Domi or Jordan Subban with Chicago's first rounder. Set us up nicely for the next few years. - HabsRUs
Yeah... that'll be sweet but it won't happen. |

Tough to say. Hard to compare one to the other when Tarasenko is a year older. I think if Scheifele plays in the WJC this year he will likely dominate just like Tararsenko did last year. - stormeyAlterEgo
Tarasenko didn't play last year in the WJC. |

I know he's still young, but Scheifele was non-existent when he played in the playoffs here with the St. John's Ice Caps this year. I thought he would be much better - HabsRUs

He's a good talent, but placing him ahead of Tarasenko is nonsense.
Never liked the pick for Winnipeg. He came out of nowhere and had a pretty good season, but he was a reach at #7, especially with guys like Couturier and Hamilton still on board.

Nah. Time will tell between the two. I think both are great prospects but it's certainly too early to tell who will have the better career.
This all started because QP laughed at someone have Scheifele ranked ahead of Tarasenko. This isn't the first time I've seen this type of ranking so I'm not sure it deserved a laugh.
It's pretty much a toss up right now. When was the last russian not drafted in the top 5 to make a real impact in the NHL? |
