I'm not getting into the Lindros debate, but I will state that he was (when healthy) one of (if not the) best players I have seen in this city in any sport.
I have to go back to Schmidt to think of anyone better. |

Got me thinking about Clarkie... as the years pass, his greatness as a player is undiminished but as a GM he looks not so great. He overemphasized the importance of "big centermen", Chris Gratton? and undervalued the importance of goaltending.Jeff Hackett? Whenever he signed a goalie he'd say "he's just as good as..." It's funny, for as great as Clarke was, he has no Cups without Parent. You'd think that would have influenced his managerial decision making. I understand his preoccupation with big players as a smaller guy who was usually overmatched in the size and strength department. Oh well. - 2731color
Clarkie will always be idolized because our city size to # of championships ratio is completely f'ing horrible. |

In the 80's I felt this team was managed much better. The 90's early 2000's meh. Now I think they're back on track. Seems like they learned some lessons from those days, one can only hope.
As a player though absolutely Clarke should be loved and adored, as a Gm not so much, imo anyway. |

It's funny this time last year I had several healthy debates on the false prophethood of a certain eagles quarterback. |

No, they could've traded for players that haven't been traded? Names you mentioned in the past. Bogosian and Subban. What makes you think they're available? And could the Flyers have gotten either for JVR? You can't trade for what isn't available. If you want to play fantasy Hockey you can talk about anybody. - MJL
maybe schenn, you don't know and once again you change the argument because the idea that a team that can't draft dmen getting out in front of the situation a season early is dead on. |

I agree with the inability to draft dmen on a consistent basis, but are there that many teams that draft all phases of the game successfully? |

Give me a name. Iverson - no way in hell. Barkley - not even close. Utley? Howard?
I guess you could say Reggie White. I'll buy that one as well. |

no, but in a cap era, I would expect significant changes to be made in scouting staff to improve their batting avg at certain positions. they've usually nailed the 1st rnd forwards. |

I say D. Brown, you say Doan.
Was there a better individual rivalry during the playoffs from a physical standpoint? |

worst case scenario - Steve Ott
I think his offense will translate better in the NHL, though |

look at the pens. they have so much $$ tied up in forwards and fleury that they MUST develop their own dmen. letang is an all star, gogo turned into Neal (and niskanen) and they just drafted a whole bunch of guys along with the #4-6 propect they got from the canes.
would like to see the flyers pick up the slack there. |
