Its not just the core though, its also the vets. If they lose Hartsy, Briere, And Kimmo. how do they replace those? They are not bit players but crucial ingredients. If you replace with free agents, they will cost as much. If prospects, they will take a couple of years to develop.
All I am saying is, Flyers are in one of those rare positions: productive vets and lots of underpriced young talent. After 2 years, I am not saying the clubs will go south, but this particular window will close, just like the Richie-Carter window closed after a couple of years. - PT21
They chose to close the Richards-Carter window, though. It's not as if they were grizzled 34 year olds. Smart drafting and trading can augment the Giroux-Couturier-Schenn core like Detroit did with the Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Lidstrom core |

The Flyers window, IMO, is just opening, not closing. B. Schenn, Couturier, Simmons, Voracek, G are serious young talents. IMO maybe the best young talent in the NHL. I believe the JVR trade for Schenn wass to try and get some young blood on the blue line to grow with these young guns.

But the difference between the Giroux/Cooter/Schenn squared/Read/Voracek era and the Richie/Carter era is in the pudding.
Look how many more young, core pieces we have....ya know? This team is much, MUCH more promising than the one 3 or 4 seasons ago.
That being said....I wish Pronger was playing - Giroux_Is_God
It is much more promising, so it will cost much more to keep it together after a few years.
Of course we can keep Schenns, G, Couts, Meszy, Coburn, Simmer, Jake if we want to. But we will have to pay abut 15 mil more than what we now do for them. Which means we will not be able to afford players like Briere and Hartnell and Kimmo as supplementary quality pieces.
In 2013-14, we will (barring trades) have a team where all the young guys will be at least in 3rd year and hitting their stride and the elders (except kimmo) should be still very good. After that, arithmetic dictates that the mix will have to change. |

Heres an idea. Looking at the Wild and it seems they need defense. Would anyone be willing to move MAB to get Clutterbuck? He would provide energy and he hits like a machine. |

Sure. Minnesota will want more than Bourdon, though |

How much more do you think? Prospect, player, or pick? |

Flyboys have 13.3 coming off the books next year for 4 players Timo(6.33), Hartnell(4.2), Shelly(1.1), fedetenko(1.75). Only 3 new(not counting current) RFAs.14/15 gets interesting, but Cousins and other young chips should be arriving.I give Holmy credit because he's staggerred this pretty good so far.

Probably something fairly significant. He's a key role player for them, and popular with the fanbase. Not talking like Voracek or Simmonds, but probably Read. |

STOP IT !!!
He seems talented enough to take a flyer (pun intended) on if he can be signed on a 1 year deal. - jstross

Just a guess, but I can't see Minnesota trading him lightly. |

Holmy has something like that in mind. Otherwise why go after Garveis?

You have a point and I dont see the need to carry this many defenseman on the team. I know Bill has spoken about trading Lilja to a team looking for a cheap depth defenseman. |

Clutterbuck is a nice player but asking for Read and MAB is alittle too much for my liking. I rather go in another direction. |

I expect Hartnell to be resigned. If Kimmo is off the books, we will need a very good D man. Shelly/Rusty are insignificant.
I wasn't saying its doom and gloom after 2 years. Rather, I was saying that we have a rare opportunity in 2013-14. |

MAB is definitely expendable and could get a useful return, in my opinion. Be that picks or prospects.
But Homer may want to keep all of our D since 3 of them will be on the 60 day DL by Christmas |

All true. |

It's all good, but Shelly and Fedetenko is $2.85 million. I wouldn't call that insignificant unless the cap goes up. Letting pieces go and not signing over priced pieces is a very good thing.

Are these all in the ballpark of what we think is goin down in Flyerdom??
Out of Lilja, Gervais, MAB, and Gus:
1. Gervais will most likely start most out of the 4, but may be splitting time as a healthy scratch with Lilja. Maybe a 60-40 split? Just throwing it out there....obviously one will get a better look if the other really falters.
2. MAB must pass through waivers to play for the Phantoms. I doubt we chance that. Does he sit??
3. Gus is waiver-exempt; he plays in the A to stay on his game.
4. One could be dealt for a role player or pick (I think this is the least possible option, but an option nonetheless)
