was watching some highlights from a flyers/preds game from last season and rinaldo and harry the Z were forechecking like crazy and creating havoc. i want rinaldo in the regular lineup please - Don'tForgetTocchet
I can do without him in the lineup if he can't keep his cool. Which he quickly developed a rep for this season. |
|
|
|
I like his speed and tenacity. I worry because he's got a bit of a target on his back and does cross the line at times - Jsaquella
yes but i kinda like that... i think/hope he can only get better at toeing the line w/experience |

Yep. LTIR - Cap space = your LTIR cap allowance(it cannot be negative). $4.9 million is a high number when trading for partial contracts.
on LTIR is if the team has less cap space than his cap hit-so in other words, if that's the case, then for Pronger to go on LTIR, if the Flyers had $4.92mm in space, Pronger can't be LTIR'd

No doubt, if he can keep his cool he can be a valuable player, if not he's better off in the AHL |

Aslo, I think, but am not 100% sure, that the only way a guy can be placed on LTIR is if the team has less cap space than his cap hit-so in other words, if that's the case, then for Pronger to go on LTIR, if the Flyers had $4.92mm in space, Pronger can't be LTIR'd - Jsaquella
eeeekkk,
So, if we have more open available space before the season starts, we can't place him on LTIR, & would have to carry him as "dead cap $"?
So we would have to spend more money before the first puck drop?
(am I getting that right)? |

You more or less want to hold off putting him on LTIR unless you are forced. |

ok I got it now, (whew)
thank you |

It basically means that the Flyers cap space won't exceed Prongers LTIR unless someone else goes on LTIR later.

right, got it, stuff had my head spinning a little
I guess that's why GM's have "cap-ologist's" now |

i thought rinaldo did a very good job with keeping his cool last year. a couple bad hits. He has such a target on his back it's a shame. I would like him in the lineup to start out, still think he brings more than sestito right now. |

A rock brings more to the table then Sestito, Rinaldo did for a most part not a bad job but his rep from juniors and the AHL followed him and didn't help his cause and won't going forward.
He'll have to work even more to keep his cool & show he can play while not being called for silly penalties. |

Here is a great link that gives examples of how LTIR effects the year end cap. Either I'm missing something or this explains things differently than we've all been talking. This says if you are maxed on the cap you can acquire players using LTIR, but you'll need to dump salary before the end of the season or you'll violate the year end cap.

Rinaldo really impressed me this year with his energy and, believe it or not, discipline.
He's a PERFECT 4th line energy guy, but he can't even step on the ice without the referees putting an arm up. It's a shame. It really is. |

Good analysis. Imo, he brought more heart to the last playoff game, and by far. He did take a bad penalty, but his energy was off the hook. |

He did just that, we looked like we actually had a forecheck when he turned it up in that last game, for a little while anyway |

Sestito had moments. He's not a bad skater for a big guy, and he is definitely a big dude.
He also has a bit of skill.
I'm just not a fan of the guy. |

Agree.
Rinaldo is the better player but I really liked what Sestito brought against Boston. |

I was at that game. As a fan, that was the most adrenaline rushing moment I've been to when he decked Volchenkov.
That or Hartsey's OT winner with 0.8 seconds left to end the sacred Penguins' 11 game win streak |

Hopefully, Rinaldo(22) and Sestito(24) improve year over year to help bolster that 4th line. |

That would be ideal. They could go out and try to sign a guy like Winnick or Kostopulous, but Rinaldo and Sestito would be cheaper and not force them to burn any additional contract slots. |

Surprised Winnick is still available, I know he can have hands of stone, but he's a useful player, good size, versatile, & can play the PK |
