Last night, a friend tipped me on a rumored proposal that would have the Hawks sending Kane and Niklas Hjalmarsson to the Habs for Tomas Plekanec and PK Subban. And the Hawks are allegedly holding out for the Canadiens to add a high draft pick or two.
When I pressed him for more details and back story, it turned out this allegedly has as its source a fairly highly placed person in the Canadiens' organization. I am presently checking with some Hawk sources on this.
But there are some dots that would seem to connect here. Underlying the Montreal rumors I have heard has been a strong desire on the part of new Montreal GM Marc Bergevin to obtain Kane.
Also, Subban fits the Hawks blueline needs like a glove—arguably better than Ryan Suter because of Subban's power play skill and right handed shot.
Plekanec obviously slips perfectly into the second line center role, where he could be a very nice complement to Marian Hossa.
Montreal gets a creative, highlight reel offensive player in Kane and a solid second pairing d-man with some unfulfilled offensive upside in Hjalmarsson.
In my opinion, if valid, this is an example of a deal where the Hawks would be stupid not to to at least consider dealing Kane—whether you think they 'should' or should not' in the absence of an actual deal on the table.
And if Bergevin's interest in Kane is as legitimate as I hear, then there could be something to this story after all. - AdamFrench
Should be building a solid d with PK included.

This. Straight up, I think it's a trade worth considering. If we have to add to that package, then Bowman can go to hell. There has to be better trade options out there...
As for the argument about Eller vs. Galchenyuk that all of you were having ealier. I think Plekanec is the moveable piece if both HAVE to play at center, we just have to hope he has a better season so you can sell high.
Eller is a 7th overall pick too, so I don't get the whole Galchenyuk is the franchise player because he was picked third overall. If they end up dominating as a tandem then who really cares which one plays center and which one doesn't?? Eller needs to fill-out his frame and Galchnyuk will need to fix his knee.
Desharnais is a pretty good 2nd line option if he can learn to take care of his own end. (which he not very good at no matter how hard Gaston Therrien tries to prove to opposite.)
Anyways, I just wanted throw in that having Galchenyuk at wing for one season just to give him less responsibilities (a la Seguin) should not be something that creates this much craziness. Eller still has room to grow, and in the unlikely event that the team decides to keep Galchenyuk, having a year where he has less responsibilities to learn the ropes of the league is not at all a reason to have people freaking out. |
