If you actually look at some advanced stats, you would see that Lars Eller and Tomas Plekanec had very similar seasons.

PDO, GF%, GA% are all very comparable. Eller's GA20 (Goals Against per 20 min TOI) was statistically better than any other center on the team. All of his numbers in terms of Fenwick and Corsi are essentially the same as Plekanec's numbers.

They kept him on the wing for a long stretch though, much more than 2 games and he never seemed to adjust. Maybe it was bad coaching.
