Says who? Other than Jesse Rogers who never thinks anyone should be traded ever because he likes all of them. I mean I don't think he will be traded but who said he is off the table? I agree with what JJ has said many times, Kane will likely be dealt for the right return, but that might not be until the trade deadline, if the right deal even comes along. - bejewell
Don't know the guy but fairly well acquainted with most of the big writers like Dreger and LeBrun. He will be revealing his identity soon though. All incognito. However, some of the stuff I watch on his twitter have been fairly spot on. |

If Bergevin can get Bowman to take Rene Bourque back in a trade...The GM of the Year Award should go to him immediately.

To mention someone is on the table one day and off the next is a good way of never being wrong... - Al
It's better then calling out a trade or signing without confirmation. Lots of that going on. |

Source? That's not very Toews-like - CBHawks88
How is it not Toews like? If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he one of the guys who helped talk Campbell in to coming here?
As to the source, I believe it came from twitter last week. |

I would be absolutely shocked if this was not happening. I wonder if Toews has a better idea than the rest of the hockey world about how this will end. - NewToHockey
I'm sure it is happening.
I'm sure Toews isn't the only one though. There's probably 29 players from 29 teams trying to convince Doan to sign in their city. |

Toews probably has been on the phone trying to sell the Hawks a lot lately...Parise, Suter too. |

Talking at the Player Meetings is a bit different than calling someone up & saying "Hey! Come play for us!". Not sure I see a quiet guy like Toews calling up these FAs and begging them to come to Chicago. Isn't that why we have SB?

Well for one you are posting on a message board for a story about how this may be going on. I would consider JJ and the people he knows as sources. |

I'm about 10 pages in, that's enough.............
JJ, if you were to give a % of if the Hawks have even talked to anyone about Kane what would it be?...... If this trade happens or not to me isn't the main thing as opposed to IF the Hawks have come to a point that they are listening/talking about Kane.... Cuz if they are he will be dealt before his current contract is up. Top 5 hands and vision in the world is hard for a team not to want, and it will only be a matter of time before he's moved.
Great to see some solid Canadien fans responding. Question, didn't Plekenac lose the #1 center spot to undrafted ECHL player David Desharnais maybe half way through the season? Desharnais, who is 4 years younger a bunch cheaper than Plekanec, also had more points and was much, much better in + -.
Also wasn't Subban sat down for a stretch as a healthy scratch?...... I watch the Canadiens every chance I get, just to see Price play so I'm going off of way more than numbers.
My point is not all is roses with these two players, and there may be as much reason to look to move these two as there are for the Hawks to look at offers for Kane.
I do agree that Subban is overrated, but that isn't to say he doesn't have an elite ceiling. I think when the sharp ones gush over him it's more a projection, but his numbers now are solid. I guess he's a handful for the coaches, has way to high of PIM numbers, will fight but is at best a lower tier middleweight...... But the kid brings grit, effort and as a a 22 year old has played two full season skating top minutes. he skated 24 minutes a game, 3:30 PP and 2:30 SH... Those are big and important minutes for a 22 year old.
Plekanec at 30 years old is no doubt the #2 the hawks covet. Lotta skill, but as I mentioned believe he lost the #1 centerman slot, and at 5 mil per ain't real cheap.
Damn tough call. MTL would get a super steady young Dman in Hammer signed for a nice number and a world class talent in Kane. IF Kane were to be shocked into playing near his ceiling due to being traded MTL would have an 80-90 point player for at least a decade.
Tough call on both ends.

I would think being the captain of the team, it might behoove him to make a few phone calls to help sell the team on free agents. Lots of players do it. How do you think Suter and Parise decided to go to the same team? Sheer coincidence?
Players meetings? What are you talking about? Do you think the players have a big freaking convention during the summer or something?
C'mon, think about it. |

Sorry I was referring to the NHLPA meetings that both Toews and Doan attended. I knew Parise and Suter have had a bromance for a while & said they wanted to "play together" before they even hit the market.

I dont take it as rude. And I don't think anyone, including JJ, is saying that this going to happen. All he is saying is that there is talk. This is a rumor that is going around. To say it will definitely happen would be dumb, but to say there is no chance of it happening is not right. There is clearly talk going on about Kane. I think some people are just so ready to have something happen they are ready to believe any trade rumor out there.
Will Kane get dealt? I think so eventually and it will probably be this year or at least next summer before his NTC kicks in. Either Bowman will do it, or after our next one and done, the next GM will do it. I think its plausible to believe the Canadians want Kane just like its plausible to believe that every other team in the league would kick the tires on him.
For us to say there is a chance that this happens is no less ridiculous than you saying that there is no way this deal goes down. It could, probably wont, but it could. It is a logical deal for both teams especially given the way Subban fell out of favor in Mtl.

Players talk to other players. Some have relationships that date back to junior teams or before. Others know each other from world competitions.
Believe me, these guys talk to each other.

I'm not denying that. This is what I read a few weeks ago that I thought the OP was referring to when he said "Toews was calling Doan":
"Doan and Toews were talking to the media at the NHLPA meetings this week and Toews said he was trying to pitch Doan on coming to Chicago."
The NHLPA Meetings which in fact were held in Chicago. Not a bad time to lobby. |
