In his blog about a week ago...jj mentioned the Hawks would rather be spenders in FA than risk getting burned in a big trade. This seems to be accurate. Stanbow will risk being embarassed or getting out pokered with a trade. He wants to "assured" of getting the upper hand.
Still the Hawks have 14 forwards and 8 dmen. The boat is full. Adding anyone means someone(s) has to go. Bolig and Hayes are you 2 bubble forwards at least going into camp. Who knows who might surprise or contend in camp. Obviuously Saad, Morin, Piri, and Smith...oh yes ole Olesz (a 3 million bag of pucks) - bogiedoc
I've got a gut feeling Hayes will be in Rockford when it's all said and done. Same with Morin, Pirri and Smith. Perhaps Olesz will be in Rockford again too? I guess that depends on what Bowman does or doesn't do.
As for the 8 defensemen, the 8th guy you must be talking about is Olsen. You can count on him starting the season in Rockford as well. |

And on that note I submit this, also with JJ's talk on the MTL/Kane trade. Get Winnik and Hannan BEFORE they are both gone and it's a good summer.

You and me both. What job did you have at the UC? My childhood friend and his father along with Junior have been working the penalty box since the early 80's. I remember during that time sitting in the penalty box during warm ups of the hated battles with the Minnesota North Stars. I will never forget those moments as a 14 year old. Getting goose bumps - jimmy33
Security. 300 level. Even though the $ was short , getting paid to watch hockey was the best job ever. There wasnt any real rowdy crowds like back in the 90s |

He would have been a nice 4th line center for cheap. Why the hell are guys like Doan, Nash, Ryan, etc... holding up StanBo from signing inexpensive role players or are we going to get the "we like the team as constructed" bs from the Hawks? I am getting very concerned that is going to happen and another year will be wasted. |

This team has enough 3-4 line players.. They need the right mix in the top 6.

I agree with you somewhat, but they don't have a 4th line center who can actually win faceoffs and play the PK. He fills a need they are severely lacking. |

True. But I still think Winnik would be a good add there. Big and tough to play against. If Bickell would bring his A game every night I doubt many would keep bringing up his name. Bickell doesn't though, so here we are.
Not taking away from what you said; some toughness in the top 6 should be addressed as well.

Whe're not getting ANYBODY!!!!
McD and Blowman have guaranteed that for sure.
This organisation have not made a significant acquisition since Hossa but this organisation certainly has traded or gotten rid of many significant impact players.....hmmmm let's see.... Ladd, Versteeg, Cambell, Brouwer, Niemi, big Buff etc...
No wonder we keep getting bumped in the first round.
What's the point of having cap space if you're not going to make use ot it?
Looks like another repeat of last year.....Sigh.
Maybe then they'll clean house.....one can only hope.

Not as worried about him though its still disappointing. When Winnik and Hannon both go, even Clark and nothing else is in place, it'll really get bad. |

You're not wrong but I'd rather Bowman work on the lines who are getting 20 minutes a night instead of the one that is going to get 8 minutes a night.

Great faceoff guy. Could have slid into that 4th line centre roll.
D. Moore might be the best one left but I can see where the hold up might be outside of his wife's condition - I heard a 3 year/2.2 mil per is the range he was looking for. Sorry can't remember the source. |

I'd rather see him bolster the top 6 too, but for $700k that is an easy, no brainer signing. Those 8 minute a night guys are important to take pressure off of Toews and company by eating PK minutes or doing other things. I'll just take a (frank)ing signing now. The inactivity is killing me. |

I'm not saying they aren't important but with this many signed now, what do you do with them?
IMO, it doesn't matter who they bring in, Toews will still play on the PK.

If that is the case, Blowman missed out on 2 guys he could have acquired for a lot cheaper i.e., Halpern and McClement. |

Of course Toews will still play on the PK, but they need another strong faceoff guy who can play the PK and Halpern fits the bill. |
