So 13 years 130 mil. for Weber? - Khadgar
Probably more like 13 years, 104-105 mil. for Weber. |

No sure how an opinions writer for a local Vancouver rag became the mainstream media, but Tony Gallagher he has a tendency to dramatize. He'll write half pages opinion pieces about off handed comments by players and speculate how that will impact the relationship with coaching. He basically gets desperate for material and has space to fill. Taking him remotely serious is your first mistake. |

You do realize that Paul McCann has a persecution complex and hates everything Canada right? His blogs are about as dramatic as Tony's garbage.... |

Gallagher is a "maroon", he just says this stuff to sell papers. Problem is, there are people in Vancouver who read his stuff and think that way. Obviously not educated hockey fans, but it's lame that his opinion is out there for people to hang on to. |

I love assumptions.

i think it would make sense that if you go above the median of the cap floor and ceiling that you don't receive revenue sharing. 2nd stipulation is that you can on receive revenue sharing 2 years in a row to prevent teams from "tanking" to get money. |

Paul McCann: More Mainstream Media Arrogance - pmccann
Paul... IF you knew who Tony Gallagher IS and has been in the Vancouver media you would not let it rub you the wrong way. Brian Burke banned the chump from the Canuck's dressing room back in the day for good reasoning. The writer (an embellishment) often writes his columns from his living room armchair. He is NOT an authority of Northern Hockey Brain trusts.
I will play Devils Advocate in one aspect however... simply put - the cap system is and has always been designed to prop up floundering markets in the southern USA. There was a time the Canucks benefited from the revenue sharing (2 years total I believe) but the amount they drew was miniscule compared to the annual drain forked over to the deadbeats to the tune of over $25M to the least successful franchises. In ANY business model I have encountered - no consortium of businesses would allow their profits to be continually drained to subsidize the VERY same competitors bidding on the scarce UFA's that could make or break the hope for post season success.
There is no greater thinking... and perhaps the real drive here is for yourself to write an inflammatory column? Maybe you and Gallagher are helping each other stir things up? |

Not saying revenue sharing doesn't work or shouldn't be in place but come it's always implied that the owners must share their revenues? How come there's no "salary sharing" among the players? - jimbri
There is. It's called escrow. |

You need those teams to remain operational to keep the strength of the league.
The big markets need the lesser markets to keep the product as high quality as it is.
An 82 game season between 15 teams is a lot less appealing then a 30 team league.
If that makes sense. |

Agreed. Just because he's in the paper doesn't make him "mainstream media". He's like some other bloggers on HB that just say wacky things to get hits. - Mambo72

There actually are conditions - you have to be growing your revenues at a pace greater than the NHL as a whole is growing, or your "share" of revenue sharing is cut back.
And you have to average over 14,000 tickets per game, although we all know that there are ways around that.

Remember that we have to overpay players to get them to sign long term deals.
Martin Erat - 7 years/$31.5m
David Legwand - 6 years/$27m
IMO if he takes a deal in Nashville it will be dumbfoundingly large.

i didn't read the gallagher article, but i agree to an extent that if you decide to spend money and lose money in the process that you shouldn't be eligible for revenue sharing. |

Having lived in Vancouver before and read Tony G's stuff, I can tell you that this is actually one of his more sane pieces. At least it make sense to some extent....
Paul, you picked a terrible, terrible, terrible Gallagher article to make an example of. It's not like there isn't an abundance of choices..... |
