They are both A's. - Nsjohn130
they are both something that certainly begins with A.. Suter especially.
I have no doubt that this has been commented on ad nauseum but I'm gonna get my .02 in
just when did it change from "make the team better, show me you want to compete yr in yr out for the Cup" to "it's all about my farm and my wifes family.." ?

I guess the one piece that Ryan was holding out for was "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!"
Just wish DP would have a set of balls last summer and traded Suter to the Hawks for Brian Campbell. Suter played DP like an idiot, I'm worried Weber will do the same thing. Time to bring back some more heart & soul in the locker room!!! Say what you want about Sully but he was a high character guy in the room.
Doan would be a start!!! |

I think Weber is cut from seriously different cloth. I liked Climer's Godfather reference. An offer he can't refuse..
You can say Poile got played but honestly what would he have done differently? He wasn't going to deal him at deadline and blowup his best chance at a Cup. Trade his rights at draft, that's it. Even then Suter was lying through his teeth to him about circling back yadda yadda yadda.. what a POS
I'll pass on Doan, he's stuck it out this long in Phoenix, gone to the conference finals and now all of the sudden it's unbearable?? He's 35,, no thanks unless he came on a discount and we know that isn't going to happen. Plus you bring in a "leadership" guy like him and I think you open up an unnecessary can of WTF worms with Weber. |

Tony Gallagher is hardly "the mainstream media". He's a local Vancouver hack trying to get noticed.
Hardly worth getting this worked up about. - maaddmike
Of course he's mainstream. He's been writing about hockey for must be 40 years for a major city paper that is part of a national media empire in Canada. You can't get more mainstream than that.

A lot of the revenue sharing arguments from both sides have merit.
However, remember one thing - it's the owners (ie: the ones who are sharing their money) who have made the decision as a group to put the current CBA Player Compensation Cost Redistribution System in place. It's their policy, right or wrong.
As in pretty much everything, they will either adapt, change, renew, alter, abandon, decry, lament, enforce, expand, etc., etc., etc. Such matters always have been and always will be in flux as situations evolve.
No biggie. When does the damn NHL season start! - blueline
One of the strange problems in the NHL is that the have-not's out number the haves significantly. So the teams (currently) generating the revenue do not have the power that they probably feel they deserve.
The cap floor is now miles beyond what the cap ceiling was after the lock-out. Can you think of anything else that has undergone that much inflation over that time? Is the league really generating all this new revenue? No. Just that the Canadian dollar is on par and they're now realizing a 40% bump in revenue from those 6 (now 7 seven) teams. They didn't earn that, it was blind luck.
Ugh. |

So, what the hell? Why is everything so freaking quiet?!? How long does it take Poile to ask Weber if he wants to re-sign, or not???????

You read the comments from his agent. There will be no quick signing. Trade won't happen quickly either.
Patience for the rest of the off-season works to everyone's advantage in this and that would apply to whether he stays or he goes. I'll start to worry if nothing is known/finalized by start of training camp. |

Now that we know how big of a lying d-bag Suter was...I remember when someone briefly posted a long while back on hfboards his pics of hanging out with Lindback one night. I remember the poster talked about asking Lindback if he thought Suter would be back and Lindback saying he was 99.9% sure that he wasn't. Then after Suter left I see comments like from Jim Diamond (a reporter I think does a great job on the Preds) say that even if Suter didn't choose the Wild he was not re-signing here.
I do feel for Poile, but wow was he really THAT out-of-touch about Suter's true intentions? And Weber's reaction of 'shock' that Suter didn't come back...you can't tell me Weber didn't have any idea. Of course he did.
I wonder how much Poile will really get back when he trades Weber. I think everyone is in agreement that it better be a king's ransom.
It really speaks to how things are right now when I hear Chris Mason talk about how glad he's coming back and loves it here so much that he is making Nashville his home once he retires. And THAT is the best story of the off-season. Sigh.
What a summer. |

I'm starting to get scared that this will be the scenario. Poile has done NOTHING to upgrade the team that fell tragically short in the second round of the playoffs. And don't tell me what a genius he is a scooping up those guys who get dropped after arbitration. This is what I was told last summer and he did nothing. The team sucked coming out of the gates. If not for Pekka this team would have been doomed from the start.
I have no idea what Poile's Plan B is, and I'm starting to wonder if he even knows what it is. |

You said it, I usually get flamed for making such statements (not you, specifically). The quietness is definitely rubbing some nerves. I hope he is working on a super duper trade of some sort. Doubt i, though... |

According to Poile, he's been in contact with agents and teams etc. I wonder if everyone thinks he's in a vulnerable position and they're trying to screw him over because they know he's desperate. |
