I would for two reasons. Ryan is younger and will be under contract for a few more years. - stveshdy
If I were Homer, I'd be selling high on Hartnell right now before he inevitably tumbles back down to his career averages, or worse, begins to break down a la Brendan Morrow.

I agree his value will never be higher than right now.
Paul Holmgren has played enough Hockey, and knows enough about the game, that he wouldn't make the statement that in the example you gave, that it should be buried 99/100 times. - MJL
You just confused the hell out of me woth your word play MJL....Mind you it isnt a great feat to confuse me, but even i know that you bury that (frank)er 99/100 times. Brier's made a living of it.

Danny Briere of the 9.2% club? He makes Voracek look like Stamkos

Yes but I doubt they would or he would waive to go there, but yes, though Id miss Hartnell and his energy - aosplayo
Hartnell would probably be the most productive roster player the Ducks could squeeze out of any potential trading partner at this point -- not to mention it gives them the desired cap flexibility moving forward and a natural LW for Getzlaf/Perry.
As for the NTC, if they press him to waive, LA metro area would seem like a pretty good option for him. Carter and Richards are out there full-time, Lupul keeps a home there, and there's no denying that LA (and its proximity to Vegas) would have appeal to him off the ice.

I thought you said you played hockey and know how hard it is when the puck was rolling on edge? Nobody buries that, reaching across their body, on their backhand, with the puck spinning on it's edge, 99 out of 100 times. In that situation, scoring there half the time would be a hell of accomplishment.

If I was Holmgren I'd be looking to re-sign Hartnell to an extension before he has another year like last year.
Off the books next summer are Timonen, Fedotenko, Lilja, Shelley, and Leighton. Hartnell and Simmonds will need new deals with raises, should be do-able.
2014 is our big summer. Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier all RFA, all will need significant deals. Read, Meszaros, and Gervais off the books that summer.
If we're looking at capitalizing on career years and maximizing assets (I know trading Hartnell for Ryan was mentioned), maybe we should take a look at Matty Read. He's very cheap for his production, but can we realistically expect 25 goals 50 points from him going forward? He'll be the odd man out in the summer of 2014, if we can utilize him in a deal for Ryan without sacrificing Voracek, should we?

Meh. Let his numbers dwindle so they can extend him for less in the offseason before July 1, 2013.
he doesnt miss from 5ft out. I wonder what it is in the playoffs...as far as im concerned danny only shows up from march and on.
Playoffs last year was 30.8 % ..... lifetime reg season is 14.7 Playoff is 16.7 lol
voracek 9.1 life time 6.3 in playoffs
big dif Jak i use lifetime stats not picking and choosing ones that make my argument..... try harder nextime bud - Philly1980
No trying necessary... I was just showing you what rationalizing can do. You pointed out earlier that he needs to cash in on shots like the one in the video. It was an absurd example... so you rationalized by posting his shooting percentage. What you dont take into account is the style of play Voracek uses. He isnt a guy who takes a lot of high percentage shots. He gets pucks to the net and sets other people up. Look at Ryan Getzlaf. He had a 5.9 shooting %. Is it because he simply cannot capitalize or because he isn't shooting high percentage shots?

There's no word play involved. - MJL
Completely agree.. hell, if the puck was flat and sitting there, scoring on the back had while reaching would be an accomplishment in its own right.
Isn't that the idea that got them in trouble with the Lupul and JvR extensions -- misreading extended hot streaks for sustainable improvement? - Tomahawk
No, it isn't. Hartnell is a proven veteran player.

Not syaing Voracek is a bad player, im just saying that putting him on the first line is a bad move. That line needs a sniper more than anything. Voracek is great at handling the puck, its just that i would rather have giroux quarterback. i dont want giroux dishing the puck to a guy who cant score in a chineese whore house. Voracek would be better suited on the second line.
If I have to point out the differences between the two plays, then I'm wasting my time in this conversation. - MJL
Calm down....yes that was a hard play....but voracek is getting paid millions, and they practice that poop a thousand times a day...i dont want no excuses thats it.

That line needs a sniper more than anything? I dont agree at all. It doesnt need anything. Hartnell had 37 goals last season. Giroux potted 93 points. Would it be nice to have a sniper? Sure. Does that line NEED to have a sniper. Nope, not at all.
Again, I think Voraceks skill set would be a fantastic compliment to that line. He would bring a lot of what Jagr provided.
