Dear lord.. now you are comparing Schenn and Seguin?
They already have that net presence on the first line with Hartnell. He is gonna be crashing non stop. G isnt just a set up man. He does everything. He will go to the tough areas, he will puck handle guys, he shoots.. but the one thing Voracek has on, probably every other guy on the team, is his puck possession ability. Getting the puck along the wall or down low and moving it out into space and generating open possession was a key ingredient to the first lines success last season. Jagr was the key contributor to that aspect. I personally feel Jake would do a fantastic job replacing Jagr. - jak521
It's just an example. Relax.
Seguin could barely crack the lineup in 2011 though, and didn't miss a beat once he got promoted to the top line last year.
Regardless, you're right that G does everything, BUT he is hesitant to shoot at times and so is Jake, which is why I think he may not be the best of compliments on the 1st line. Schenn could certainly prove to be a poor fit or not ready for such a heavy workload, but I'd like to see Lavy try him out there first. |

Did they say that to G? - jak521
No idea, but they put faith in him, gave him a raise and he has certainly earned a bigger one.
As for Voracek on top line, i agree w/ you 100%. Doesn't everyone remember how deadly Giroux was from the circles on one timers? Having Voracek work the walls to get Giroux a few of those w/ Hartnell creating trouble in front of the net. Sounds good to me. |

Got paid, yes.
Higher expectation, yes
Traded, yes
Not disagreeing with you, I just think that it becomes a time when the team needs to reel the players in and let them know their perceived value and long term picture (if Homer has one). In modern days of Dwight Howard, Parise, Eli Manning, Lebron, etc, I hope that teams can maintain some control over the talent.
"Name on back not as important as logo on the front"
Giroux is face of franchise, accepted a good, escalating deal @ 22 yrs old. That would be my sell to Voracek. Produce a 70 + pt season on top line and we'll talk big $$. - bgratch
Have you ever heard of inflation?
Market value has increased since then. |

Only one way to find out. Only one way to find out with any of them. I just personally look at the skills each player brings and see Jake as the most readily capable player for that position, who also brings a very complimentary skill set to that line. - jak521
I dont disagree that Voracek will be slotted in that spot. I'm more concerned on the money being thrown around to a young 22 year old who has had 38, 50, 46, 49. Lets sign a one year deal at 3.25M (about a million raise) and see how you do playing on that line this year.
The other risk the Flyers could take is to pay Voracek more money and ask for him to commit longer on the deal. |

As a hypothetical, what if he posts 70 or 80 in 2013?
Then you're paying him $5.5+ mill long-term. |

Of course I've heard of inflation, but when you have the rights to a player, you hold the cards and can sell vision. Of course it's debatable if Homer thinks beyond the next day, but that's another debate all together.
I like Voracek, but I don't think he's shown enough to warrant being paid more than our top guy at the same time of his career. I truly think that if he was put on similar path $$ wise that could get it done. If you want to reward him for 2 decent years in CLB, then give him a 4M AAV, but that's it. |

If he earns that money and thats what the market commands the Flyers have choices. Sign him, trade him, or let him go. |

If you listened to Da Man before free agency started, you would have known that it would be a quiet offseason.
If you want movement and excitement, pray for Ryan. |

True. But there isn't always inflation.
Look at some of the money Lindros and Leclair received.
Who knows what will happen in the future? Not me. I do know that there are ups and downs. TV deals may change. Recessions may come, lowering ticket prices.
All that being said, your point is fair and Voracek will make somewhere in the 3.5 - 4.25 area per year. |

That's just not how the NHL Salary structure works. When your negotiating, your using what the market is today, not what it was 2 years ago. |

On a more economic scale, it is worth noting that the US government is fighting deflation and has set rates at near zero for the next 3 or 4 years accordingly. |
