Does that about sum it up???? - Pope of Pucks

Holy Schnikes!!
O'Rielly led the league last year in Takeaways with 101.. Tavares had 99...
But O'Rielly had a gVa/TkA differential of +67.. no one even came close to that in the NHL.
Thornton's differential was +1 |

Stasnty is a pass first center who is not known for goals... Roy is a shoot first center who likes to score (putting bills in his fishtank).. thats just how it would be naturally.. |

Where did you get those stats? I'm curious who else is high up there, if there is anyone we can target this off season |

I think that the RFA structure should be that a team forfeits specific draft picks for the tenure of a contract.
For example, teams offering a one year contract would forfeit picks for 1 year and teams offering six year contracts would forfeit picks for 6 years; this would promote their use and also prevent teams from offering long term sheets. |

Ryan Getzlaf had 95 giveaways last year... only Ilya Kovalchuk had more with 101.. Joe Thornton was 3rd with 95 as well....
Kovy was -98 in differential
Getzlaf was -60
Thornton was -1 |

gwg can be somewhat of a misleading stat
I wish they would track go ahead goals, I'd be more interested to know which players score the most when the game is tied |

One of my least favorite stats. Takeaways/giveaways are too subjective. On a play where there is a change of possession, it's either a takeaway or a giveaway. It can't be both. It's up to the statistitian's discretion. Team statistitians can pad their stats. If their team makes the play, it's obviously a takeaway for them. If their team loses the puck, don't penalize your own player with a giveaway. Just give your opponent the takeaway. No skin off your ass.
It's probably overthinking it. I don't think there are really stats conspiracies out there. But it's fact that it's either a giveaway or takeaway, not both. It's easy for these stats to get skewed

A much more revealing stat than +- , actually shows individual stats, as opposed to just being on the ice during a goal for/against
I wonder what afinagenovs differential was.. |

I like that idea. I wish empty net goals didnt count. I know it sounds wrong but when ov scores 50 something goals and have 10+ eng is he really a 50 goal scorer. |

he's 32 and his production has been declining over the past 4 years. Plus, doesn't he get paid 10 mil per for the next 4 seasons?
I should've looked it up but I'm too lazy |

And I think he could be had without giving up TOO much.
Im fine with our young core, we just need a stop gap center until they get more experience.
Marleau/Thornton/Vinny are great options.
But whens the last time we made a big trade within the East? |

I like the idea too.. but you have to remember 8 years... until 2020.. would have Vinny at 7.75M cap hit on our books but 10M salary until 2015-2016..
2006 - played 82 games and scored 108
2007 - played 81 games and scored 92
2008 - played 77 games and scored 67 (stamkos draft year)
2009 - played 82 games and scored 70
2010 - played 65 games and scored 54
2011 - played 64 games and scored 49
I would say because of what hte asking price would be I would pass... |

.. wow I just looked that up..
he gets paid 10M from 09-10 season to 15-16 seasons.. then 8.5, then 4, then 1.5, then 1.

interesting point.. I didn't realize that..
Ryan only had 12 points on December 1st... 24 games.
Perry had 21 points on December 1st though..
Getzlaf had 19 points on December 1st. |
