You're gonna tell me you didn't like seeing your sens in the playoff last year? when everybody had them in the ceiling? Cmon now! - Traceur
As a fan of my own team, I loved every second of it. i went to all three games. My point isn't about loving your own team, its about how your team is percieved outside of your own market. All my point is is that unless you win it, those other things (president's trophy, making the finals) don't seem to count outside of your city. I can say I was proud of my team when they made it to the finals, all I hear is how we choked, or how we got thrown around. |

From the perspective of someone who pays to watch their team play, you couldn't be more wrong.
But if you are looking at it from the perspective of someone who watches NHL hockey from their couch then you are spot on.
You keep tuning in champ! - bloatedmosquito
Thanks for assuming I just watch games on TV. I've probably seen more hockey games live than you in my lifetime.
Also, I clarified my point above. |

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your team even just for making the playoffs, enjoy, that's why we love following the game. It's when fans of those teams use some of that minor success to look down their nose at another fan of a team who din't win the cup either. Kings fans get the right this year to look down, nobody else. |

Yup. 29 losers every year, and then everybody starts again with the same chance. It's nice when your team does better than a rival, but both parties know full well that they didn't start the season with that as their goal; to move the goalposts after you fall short just looks desperate. |

I still think if Leafs can get a goalie they have a decent shot. Last year was a blown opportunity. I am not quite sold on Reimer yet, and I don't know if you guys still have a legitimate #1 centre. Most of the big moves so far in the Eastern conference have come in the South East division, and those are usually the teams battling for the 8th seed. I don't mind the leafs, as this team is fun to watch, but they are going to be very hardpressed to squeak into the playoffs if they don't get some saves. |

I agree totally.
Its funny, when I first moved to Ottawa the thing was to hate the leafs. There was always this thing about meeting the Leafs in the playoffs, losing and then continuing the heated rivalry. I think even the most heated rivalries, after a while you just wish they'd be able to have that chance again because the passion on boths sides is there. The Leafs missing the playoffs the first couple of years was funny, we all enjoyed it, but I miss being able to have meaningful games. I miss having the chance to beat them finally. Its like that line in the Dark Knight where the joker essentially tells Batman he needs him. Weird to miss the team you so often hated. |

I'm not sold on Reimer either, but I really do think that if he hadn't gotten that concussion, the season would have ended with a playoff berth. I don't like it when Burke keeps jinxing him as "the real deal," though; didn't he say the same thing about Dan Cloutier? |

Yeah, leafs-sens games at scotiabank place aren't what they used to be. Both teams have changed the guard in the past few years, but hopefully it won't be long again until the rivalry is back more in full force. |

I try to forget about the Dan Cloutier days ..................
The thing with Riemer is he only played half a season and was rewarded with a very big contract. And then Giguere was moved out. I still think a veteran back up is a must when teams are trying to groom a young starter. |

And that's what most Leaf fans are thinking. It'll be another fight just to be there at the end. Goaltending is a huge question mark and nostradamus couldn't fore tell if Reimer is Jim Carey or the real deal. We're not a couple pieces away like the Nucks that's for sure. |

I disagree with $1.8M/3 years being "big," but definitely true about the veteran backup. I was disappointed that they let Giguere go; it seemed like he was cool with the mentoring role. |

My good buddy is a huge Sens fan and we love watching that rivalry, like you said though about the passion, it's just not there if one team sucks. Truth is i'd love to see every Canadian team do well. Some fan bases are more deserving though |

So you're saying that seeing the game in person breeds desperation to validate spending money on the ticket, thereby making you willing to accept a lower standard of success? - tryan83
Not surprised that my comment confused you.
As a paying customer (and a fan of a Canadian team where ticket prices are outrageous) nobody wants to watch their team lose. Going out to dinner before the game, making an effort getting to the rink, have a few beers, and your team winning that night is better then having your team lose.
Over the years I've had a blast watching my team win and a little delighted that I didn't 'waste' my money. I don't think you understand the joy a fan gets watching their team win. Sure the playoffs have been disappointing but I would never give up those memories of playoffs past. Some of my best hockey experiences have been during the playoffs. Inside that arena, that atmosphere, there's no other place I would rather be.
Some day you will understand. Hang in there kiddo. |

I love how you are named after the Leafs 1st line center, who'd be a 3rd and 4th line center on most NHL teams.
I love how Leafs fans think because Burke and Nonis selected some players that are on the Canucks that it makes the Leafs better.
I love how the Leafs always make a push for the playoffs in February and March and never make it.
I love how you Leafs fans come into our blog to trash talk us, yet you all leave with your tail between your legs.
Leafs, Argos, Raptors... jokes of their leagues.

Sorry champ. You brought up the fact that if you don't win the stanley cup there's no point in being happy as a fan. One winner, everyone else is a loser. With you it's all or nothing. That's the typical view of a fan that has to deal with mediocrity. That's ok, keep telling yourself that. It will make the bum hurt go away.
Speaking of going away. Take a (frank)ing hint. |

That sounds swell, "kiddo," and I'm sure the related book of poetry will be lovely. Obviously it's fun to go to a game and see your team win, which no one ever questioned. Seeing games in person is super neato! But as a measure of success for a team - which is what we were talking about - winning some playoff games, or the President's Trophy, means squat next to the Cup. |

At no point did he say that not winning the Cup means your fans need to be unhappy. But if your team doesn't win it all and you're still 100% satisfied, something's up. You can be pleased with your team's performance and still want them to improve. |

You can sure come up with a narrative based on nothing I said... good for you. Thanks for swearing too. Makes you sound like a 14 year old trying to be tough in front of his mom. I dont argue with kids though so as you were son. |
