Jeff Quirin: Cam Janssen Just Being Cam Janssen
So Cam Janssen said some bad things. Yeah, he shouldn't have, but what did you expect? - Jeff Quirin
Knew someone would blow this poop up for hits, expected it to be Barry. It's a radio show, if this were to happen in the middle of the season, it would be irrelevant. Over the top comments, maybe, it looks a lot worse on paper than it does during the interview. After all he was set up to be politically incorrect, but does that define Janssen or the Devils? No.
Edit: Thought you were going to take the other side and start blasting him for what he said, nevertheless, I pretty much agree with what you said. |

Political correctness gets a bad rep from people blowing it out of proportion. However, homophobia and sexism is a problem. Your perspective on the situation determines whether or not Janssen's words are comical. Personally, I think he came off as a jackass and seeing that he is not a quality hockey player he should know when to shut his mouth and do his job. Not everybody gets a voice or time to express themselves to a large audience. Janssen chose his words poorly and represented himself poorly. |

Haha devils fans tore Avery apart for saying sloppy seconds .... This guy called out gays, said he likes to hurt players , hit them in the head , and that's ok..... Take the blinders off this dude is a clown the only thing irrelevant is him he's a healthy scratch 9.9/10th of the season he's a joke worthless and deserves to be in the ahl for the rest of his career |

Actually, no. I thought Avery's comments were pretty funny. Avery called reporters over to him so he can make a statement, to me, that's a whole lot different from being interviewed on a radio show where they already go over the top, and being set up for something. Not saying what he did was right, but still think it's getting blown out of proportion. |

obscenely excessive fixation on being politically correct
Um... political correctness is only necessary in a democratic society like ours because there's people out there like Janssen (and worse) who just don't have the good sense to know that threatening violence against gay people isn't humorous. |

This interview made me like Cam Janssen a little. A person gets sick of the stock, cookie cutter, lame answers most hockey players give. This wouldn't even be a blip on the radar if an NFL player said it. |

Who?
Always love the guys who are nobodies yet still run their mouth.
And he's a Devil. Even funnier/sadder. Yeah, let me talk poop about a team that not only beat us, but didn't play a minute against either. Lmao. |

Yes, here come hordes of devils fans to protect Janssen from criticism. What would we do without our favorite player that had less points than Marty. |

lol. in my opinion there's nothing to protect him from. he spoke how i'm sure 90% of hockey players speak. maybe he should've been more professional, but this is hardly a professional broadcast. it is what it is.. and its not that big of a deal. |

It's an online radio show, they go over the top, not the smartest thing for him to get himself into, but it's being entirely blown out of proportion. I doubt he expected anything to come of it, they aren't even on a regular radio station. It was simply supposed to be heard by the fans of the show, which watch it expecting comments like this. |

While he did a great sum of charity work and was always seen doing positive things in the community, he's still "a guy".
Yet many (most, I hope) men manage being "guys" without appearing misogynic, homophobic and hateful. |

Yup. Dumb for him for what he said and even going on, not really anything to get worked up about either. |

You know when someone tries to be funny by saying a lot of offensive things? I think that's what Janssen was trying to do. The problem is he came off as a total jackass and was less funny than the NHL Awards. You have to try to be that unfunny. |

I enjoyed his fat chick comment. The fat chicks that Janssen sleep with must punch him in the nose and steal his wallet because that is basically what the Kings did to the Devils. |

I am a bit shocked by the group saying that the comments were blow out of proportion. That's simply wrong. Look at the work the Burke's have done in an effort to curb homophobia out of the game of hockey. You can even look at guys like Sean Avery and even Brent Sopel, who took time out of their personal lives to essentially welcome the gay community to the hockey world without judgement or hate. What they've done is quite remarkable in sports, and the You Can Play project has been working so hard to rid the game of the attitudes and hate Cam Janssen professed in his interview with these goons.
It's really disappointing to hear, and it's even worse to hear it being downplayed or played off as 'overreaction.' |

This, this and more of this. Cam Janssen has displayed throughout his "illustrious" career that he is at best a cheap thug, and at worst a bigotted cheap-shot artist with no regard for the safety and wellbeing of others. He forgets that as an NHL player, he represents the leagueand his team, and that there are millions of youngsters who look up to NHL players as role models. I really hope that he receives a very steep fine for this jackassery... |
