His health would be a huge concern for me. He's only ever played 82 games once and never more than 75 in any other year. He's only played 81 games the last two years and has tallied a mere 31 points compared to the three previous years in which he played 225 games and recorded 205 points. - NickTheKid87
Agreed, that's a huge financial risk the Caps are taking with Green. Kind of interesting that McPhee still believes in the core of his team (outside of Semin) and won't move any of them. I don't think the Caps stack up with the elite in the conference unless Holtby can play out of his mind for entire season. |

I was talking about ONE specific game. The 49ers game. The Giants deserved to win the championship. I'm just saying that Williams basically gave them the game. Eli did squat against the 49ers defense. Those two turnovers inside their own 30 yard line were the difference. Not taking credit away from Eli (as overall player) or the Giants they won the Super Bowl. - stveshdy
Williams didn't hand the Giants the game. Did Williams cause the 49ers to be an embarrassing 1-13 on third down?
An NFC Championship game that goes to overtime is decided by a lot more than one play. |

Yet despite all of that, since the 07-08 season, Green ranks 4th among NHL blueliners in points, 2nd in goals and his 0.77 points per game leads the league. |

I really like Holtby though. That kid has the potential to be a star in this league. I'm sure he will have his struggles going through the everyday grind of the NHL during the season. Overall I like him a lot. |

Last two years the injury bug has bit him hard. It's really a tail of two players with him. 07-08 to 09-10 he is one guy and 10-11 to 11-12 he is another. Which one are you getting? |

I like Holtby too. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up having a career like Cam Ward after his Conn Smythe and Cup win in 06. |

If Green got 6+ million, and Suter got an outrageous 13 yr 98 million dollar contract, anyone want to venture a guess at what Weber's contract will look like?
Have to think in the 13 yr 117 million dollar range. Which would be a bargain, compared to Suter's deal. |

I like his potential, my point is I'm not as sold on their blueline. I like Carlson and Alzner, after that Green (ok defensively), Hamlrik -yikes, Poti - ouch, Erskine - average, Schultz -ok. Hunter's system covered up a lot of their defensive core deficiencies with his collapse to the front of the net mentality. We'll see what Oates brings to the table. Holtby had a very good year for a rookie, sophomore seasons for goalies are never a sure thing. |

I think the Caps underachieved last year. They have the talent on the team but they seem to just do whatever they want which leads to their downfall. Will see what happens but the Caps should be a solid club next year. |

Somehow Oates has to get Ovie to play with the passion he had a few years ago. Their captain looks disinterested, which the other players on the team can see. It will be an interesting year for the Caps, Ovie's contract is for an elite player, if he isn't scoring 40 goals a year, he is an anchor on the salary cap. |

I totally agree about Ovechkin. His level of play has declined lately and he needs to find that "elite" level again. |

I can't worry about Weber and his contract now. My mind is focused on Hamels and the Phills. Waiting for their big offer tomorrow.
Oh, the tension... |

I think teams have figured him out to a degree too. He can't just dangle through the offensive zone to the net anymore. His play of late also shows how relative low is hockey sense and IQ are. He's an elite talent for sure but there comes a time when you can't get by on talent alone as Ovi is now finding out. |

Might as well just deal him for prospects and cross your fingers he'll resign in the offseason. They could get some good prospects from Texas. |

No one is going to give up elite prospects for Hamels without assurance that he intends to sign long term. Texas minor leagues is loaded with prospects. |
