Pronger had a broken hadn at the time if i remember correctly. Not exactly making him his female dog. Pronger would kick Myers arse up and down the ice 5x over.
I dont need Myers to be nasty. I need him to be on the ice and be are best sound defensemen scoring goals and getting assists. I am so sick of the Chara comparisons. Because they are the same size they have to be the same player?
Myers will never be Chara, and frankly I'm ok with it. - ImThatGuy

If we sign Doan and its the 4 year 30M deal, who's for it?
I'll start.............Yes
Is that more than he deserves, sure is. BUT, he is a player that we need in a bad way and this organization and Darcy has been critized time and again for not being agressive enough, so I for one will nt critize them for being agressive, even it may be to agressive. - Homer
Doan is Drury part deux
I would except that contract. Yes . |

I honestly don't want to see him fighting or in the box. I want to see him on the ice 25 min a game. Eating up minutes and shutting down the oppositions top talent. |

And im confident he will be. He was feeling the pressure of being a 21 year old shut down defensman, and I blame Lindy a little bit too. They should have been easing him into this role, regardless of his rookie season. It's unfortunate him and Ehrhoff took turns getting hurt all year because they were getting there game back after the all-star break |

You will be shocked Homer!
I say yes also, Uncle Terry has the $$ and wants to win a Cup! If he can pull this off (win a Stanley Cup) in a year or two, who cares about Doan's contract in 3-4 years. - Irish 14

This I agree with. IMO Lindy needs to be on the hot seat if this team underperforms again. |

Darcy is not the worst. He is patient and that is good.
If Doan does not come to Buffalo, Darcy will move on to Plan B, which might be just to go with Cory Tropp. |

Lindy should have been on the hot seat for a while now. Im confused, hypothetically if the Sabres win the cup in Lindy and Darcy's 16 season, are they then given 16 years to win another one? Are they then invincible. It's a huge problem IMO to have a coach and GM around this long with no results, how do you ever fire them then? |

As someone who has been a member of hockeybuzz from almost day 1 i find it almost unbearable to read the posts anymore. The pages and pages of constant fighting among each other about the stupidest things every single day is getting old really fast.
I wish there was a way to block individual names so i can just bypass all the useless nonsense.

Garth, if you're right then Buffalo offered north of $7M for 4 seasons to a 20 goal scorer and you think this is a good thing? Doan is a good guy but if that's the kind of money he's looking for I'd lock the door and turn the lights off, pretend you're not home. |

His hand wasn't broken, he had fully recovered from it when he returned to the flyers lineup. It's true we don't need him to be nasty but he would be a lot tougher to play against and more entertaining to watch if he was |

Hypothetical lines if we get Doan (for fun)
Hodgson with Vanek and Doan or Pominville?
Ennis with Stafford and Doan or Pominville?
? with Leino and Foligno/Ott?
McCormick with Kaleta and Gerbe/Foligno/Ott?
I think Pominville stays on first line. I think Doan is the winger on the 2nd line. I dont care how many people say Ott is not a Center, in this scenario he centers Leino and Foligno. Gerbe, McCormick, Kaleta on the 4th line.
If we sign Doan, could you see a Vanek for Stastny swap?
Are we holding out on Grigorenko/Girgensons to Center that 3rd line?
Lets hear your thoughts. - CLoSkills
I see a secondary move occuring if we sign Doan.
The Sabres might go out and trade for someone like Malone, Getzlaf or Statsny.
If it is Malone, I could see Leopold and Gerbe heading out;
If it is Getzlaf, I could see Ennis/Hodgson and Pysyk heading out;
If it is Stastny, It could be Tropp, Leopold and Ennis/Hodgson.
I would love to see a line of Vanek Getzlaf/Stastny and Doan
Leino Ott and Pominville would make a great shut down line....Ott takes the faceoffs and moves to the wing; Leino moves to center after the faces offs because he works better coming down the middle of the ice but is not very good at faceoffs.
All three are very good back checkers.
The third line includes Foligno Hodgson/Ennis and Stafford.
The 4th line includes Mccormick, Kaleta and Scott/Ellis/Adam.
The better question is who are the Sabres dangling in trade possibilities?
My top ten list in order of availability, size and softness includes:
Brennan
Leino
Pysyk
Adam
Gerbe
Leopold
Sekera
Mccormick
Ennis
Hodgson
You can thrown in Enroth and Sign Hasek as your back-up to Miller, if you can get a package to gether tha gets you Nash, Kane, Ryan, Getzlaf, Stastny, and to a lesser exten Malone.
If you trade Leopold in a package can you replace him with McNabb/Brennan or even sign someone like Spacek or Coliacovo or Hannan?
If you trade Gerbe, in a package he is replaceable?
If you trade Ennis or Hodgson, you have to be getting a better centerwho is better now back with lots of contract time coming back...not a UFA next year like Getzlaf, therefore Statsny is a better target.
Malone makes a lot of sense for this team if we deal a Brennan/Leopold and/or Gerbe for him, especially if Tampa need the cap room to bring a goalie like Luongo in. Malone should become the target whether or not Doan sign here, but I would pull the trigger on getting him or Morrow here now to show Doan the Sabres mean business......it is a small price to pay, but with a lot of upside.

Do we have a legitimate seat at the table?
or are we standing room only/leverage for another team to raise their offer? - JVince11
Our position is very strategic.....we can offer him the best contract showing him that we really need him and push the others to an insane number. The Buffalo situation (Miller and Boston) will appeal to the Doan's righteous sense of hero instinct. Therefore, if Doan signs with us....he gives us the intangibles we need; he signs elsewhere and the Sabres have eliminated a potential competitor in the Nash/Ryan/Getzlaf/statsny/Thornton/Marleau/Malone sweepstakes.....in this way dominoes begin to fall.
