Some are questioning the wisdom of signing Doan to a 4 yr/30 Mill deal... out of concern for his age. Here's another way of thinking about it...

Bill Guerin, Andreychuk, Bourque, Mark Recchi, Ray Whitney, Chelios etc., etc, etc.

All these 'old guys" won cups in their older playing years, and you could argue that not signing these guys (that were acquired at the deadline) for their experience and desire to win was stupid by all the teams who didn't win those years. Would anyone argue with signing a 36 year old Chelios to our team? A 38 year old Andreychuk? Didn't think so.

Not saying that we sign Doan and we automatically win the Cup, but the leadership and experience he could give our team, especially in light of all the evidence that we lack these qualities.

I get that it is a risk, and it is not a sure thing, but seriously, considering bringing back Dominic Moore? Screw that, I want Doan. It would be like sending the whole team of purse-wielding nancies to see Gary Roberts for character, rather than physique!

Doan is pretty much the realization of what they were going for when they got Rivet. Except that his tank isn't empty and he doesn't suck.

PS, I have heard that Gerbe is a big religious guy (pun intended) and that he belongs to the same church as Doan... suprised no one mentioned that, given all the hoopla that Stafford was BFF with Parise and that was supposed to be the determining factor)

I think I'd be more open to it if he had already won a Cup. That's something this team is seriously lacking right now, so if I'm going out and getting a "grey beard," I'd like him to have that on his resume.

Well, our cottage isn't hard to find. It's the only one with a volley ball net up. You could have stopped by. We were having a good time. Liter of JD or not, I don't think it would have mattered.
