I say leave McNabb in Rochester this year. Pair him with Pysyk. Then you have a pairing that could be together for a decade. - HonkFortheGoose
He will prob start there,
ESP if we don't trade any defensemen
It's going to be hard not to bring him up here at some point though...
Whether we have injuries or not
He's that good already IMO
Briere has 170 points in 222 games
Roy has 148 points 195 games
Briere has a .77 ppg in 222 games
Roy has a .76 ppg in 195 games
I don't see the worth on his 6.5M contract
you were saying? - JVince11
you mean other than the fact that no other player in the entire league has more points than him in the playoffs post lockout? id take him back at 6.5 in a heartbeat.

please don't respond to my posts, I would hate to get another attacking e mail like I got for posting a picture of miller getting toasted by crosby - homiedclown
Does a so-called "average" rookie camp mean he will not be good?
What about that kid who had a hat trick in the scrimmage?
Does that mean he's the next Crosby?
McNabb dominated in juniors and in 2/3 of an AHL season
Plus a pretty strong performance up here for us
I like what I've seen from him
I could be wrong of course,
But I think he has a very bright future
I think he'll be very "pronger-like" - jdfitz77
all I ask for is the sabres dress the 12 best guys up front for the top 3 lines and the 6 best d men in their organization

What's the point difference in the playoffs between the 2? - dadeadhead
That was my point DD... I said that Briere is GREAT in the playoffs.. there is NO doubt about that.. Briere is litereally Roy in the regular season though.

I would think you're right. Homer said they want to get him into the top 6 this year, I just don't know with some of the other moves they've made if that will happen. Even if you take Pardy out of the equation.

so the real qestion is does his playoff numbers make him worth the extra 2.5 mil cap hit over what roy gets? i say yes.

I just think people are being a little quick to lavish such high praises on a kid whos played 25 NHL games. He's untouchable/He's the future/He's the next Pronger etc. Maybe give him a full 82 game season before we go there.
Mancari also dominated in the AHL, and we all know what he looks like in the NHL.
it could also be taht we have such high regards for him that we over analyze everything he does and if he doesn't just knock our socks off we call him average..
where as players like Pysyk, Leduc, and McCabe got very high regards from people because we don't have to see a "knock your socks off" kind of moment every shift or two.
just my 2 cents. - JVince11
True
We also want these guys to be good & prob overrate them too
Not all these guys are gonna be the stars we expect/hope they'll be
A good example of what I'm talking about could be mike weber
I remember him looking a lot like McCabe did at rookie camp

But McNabb looked every bit the part in the NHL as well. I know it's only 25 games, but stilll, he was playing on a team that was absolutely decimated by injury and he still stood out and didn't look out of place.

What about the rest of his game... is he better than Roy at FO%, two way game, turnovers, PP/PK time, etc.
I'll give him leadership, playoff performance, motivate others all day..
but we are still talking about a guy that makes the same money as Stastny. - JVince11
There's where the difference comes in, Briere is more of a liability defensively. Everyone knows that. But he was a good leader when he was here, he makes his teammates better, he's a proven performer. With some of the other changes in the offseason, we can now afford to do something like this without having to worry about that. Ott can play in Roy's PK position, so we haven't shorted ourselves there anyway.
