Look man, those stats take into consideration a bunch of stuff that the average fan doesnt notice or pay attention to, like: the teams plus minus, shots against/for when a certain player is not on the ice. Combine that with his quality of competition, and quality of teammates, his off zone starts and off zone finishes, and its quite CLEAR -- Sekera was our best defenseman.
Ehrhoff had the most amount of giveaways. For someone who is toted as a "our best puck mover" thats not really fitting.
Ehrhoff was solid for us last year. But our record wasnt good with Ehrhoff because he provided the quality of defense that Sekera did. Ehrhoff was able to help our team score more when he was there. Which is more or less what we got him for. Now, if he can learn to keep more of his shots on target, hed be more effective. - theblueandgold
Ehrhoff was credited with 136 shots on goal last year, compared to 88 for Sekera.
It's all relative.
Plus, Ehrhoff shoots to score.

Those stats pretty much proved that Sekera is our best defensman when it comes to not allowing the other team shots, and having more puck possession. Go back and read through, about halfway down when you get to corsi stat. - theblueandgold
i see and comprehend it, but as has been stated several times stats are just stats. ill yield that reading that post made me feel he did better than i had given him credit for, but i still believe ehrhoff was more of a factor than your givin him credit for as shown by the record with and without him |

I would also say that the emphasis on blocked shots would bring everyone's missed shot totals up quite a bit, especially for defensemen. |

Saw that, went holy poop!
Thats a lot of dough. Myers signing is starting more and more to look like a good to great deal. (If his production keeps up) - ImThatGuy
It looks like 5.5M is going to be a life saver in the next 2 years..
Some of these deals that guys have gotten are just absurd handcuffs to their team. |

What exactly determines this though? Isn't that fairly subjective? There's no formula that's cut and dry. - HonkFortheGoose

I believe it goes by other teammates corsi and general evaluation of player.
Obviously your top 2 lines are going to be more quality than your bottom 2 lines.

just a thought
trade leopold and a prospect or winger for a better winger on the third line and sign Brett Clark to be that last solid D man for the 5/6 pair
this way we never see mike weber again for the sabres, unless there is a staff infection and heart nearly explode in the playoffs |

to make their pp work at a high level, both d men need to fire the puck IMO
bring back scott to coach the pp - homiedclown
agreed. and i really hope they dont put pommer on the other point again. if i remeber correctly his biggest point production season was the year right before he was moved to the point. then a decline. i feel his down low play on the pp in those hogh scoreing years was very underappreciated. |

All those stats show is that Sekera was not as bad as the wrap he gets, which I never disputed in the first place. It doesn't show, one way or the other, that he was a better defenseman than Ehrhoff. The win column shows that. The best way to show how player's value is to look at the team when he's not playing. Ehrhoff beats Sekera in that department. It's why Roy is expendable. It's also why I may have inadvertently started another Ryan Miller flame war. - buffalofan19
I really cant agree with the statement that the best way to judge a player is to see how the team does without them in the lineup.
We won more with Ehrhoff in the lineup because he allowed us to score more per game. You cant win games if you cant score.
Furthermore, our team gave up more shots and more goals when Sekera was not on the ice as opposed to when he was on the ice. |

i should think that trade is mostly a wash without the 2nd. of course minus the fact that its a huge difference in salary and cap hit. |

Pommer needs to play where Drury playednon the pp.
Every time hes put there, he scores. |

If you believe HonkForTheGoose, we can't get rid of Weber because that would offend Steve Ott.
