What'd you expect them to say....Lindy Ruff is a GIANT a$$hole....Sure he has some good in his coaching style, but for the most part I don't think his players enjoy playing for him. - Pillar
No. I didn't expect them to say he was a giant a$$hole. Give me a break.
But they certainly didn't have to say the things they did say, that they wouldn't be where they are without him.
At the end of the day, whether they like playing for the guy or not, they're the ones who have to produce on the ice. That's why, as they say, they get paid the big bucks.
Have some F$%#king pride and go play the game hard, and to win.
Stop making excuses for these players.
Oh Lindy's too hard, he yells at me, he tells me he sucks, he doesn't coddle me, wha wha wha...
The last time I heard, no one on the LA Kings was complaining about what a grumpy a$$ motherf$%#ker Daryl Sutter was. He is one of the most miserable coaches in sports.
It's time for some of these players to nut up, have some pride, and go win something.

I heard Doan is signing tomorrow-he agreed to terms today-they are saying it is with yotes.....hockey insider....I hope they are wrong! - Pillar
That's fine. If he goes back to the Coyotes, that's okay. We all knew he didn't want to leave, and the saga would be over. I would like Shane Doan here, but $7.5 million a year is just begging for buyer's remorse.

Obviosly you never worked for a complete Richard Head! It can take the fun out of work....I played College baseball and we got a new coach between my Junior and Senior year. Our new coach was cool, not a pushover, but he actually acted like he gave a crap about us, and we went from 8 wins to 22 with basically the same players. I am just saying, I think treating people with respect would lead to more positive results then treating people like inmates!

One more point.... Today's average NHL'er has been a Star at every level of hockey. They get treated a little different their whole life. Whether it's being recruited as a star in Juniors, or a stud freshman at a college. Most of them don't respond well to being treated like dogs. This is not my opinion. Did you listen to the players exit interviews the last few years. At least 3 or 4 guys have had negative comments about this coaching staff. I think it is probably the majority opinion. For a player to call out his coach like that, it has to be something they feel real strongly about.

If you had been part of this convo since the start, you would have read that I work for a complete and utter d!ckhead with zero people skills.
I agree that treating people with respect gets better results, but who's to say some of these slugs don't deserve a kick in the a$$.
I am a manager in a unionized environment, and it's all about knowing your people, who to coddle, who to compliment, who to treat like children, and who to leave alone. I work in an environment where my boss looks at our results hour by hour, kind of like an 8-hour sporting event. Except the enemy is ourselves sometimes.
All I'm saying is, don't always blame the coach. The players have to have some pride, too.
If Doan does not pan out and Weber does not sign by August 1, I would not be surprised if Buffalo gives him a long term contract and gives Nashvile a huge package deal for Weber....we can afford to give 3 defensemen and 2 forwards to get Weber and perhaps even a goalie like Enroth.

Shea Weber is the hidden domino.

Breaking: Shea Weber agrees to offer sheet with Philadelphia. 14 years, upwards of $100 mil. Preds have 7 days to match. Wow!!
My take on Lindy; He's a great coach. Say what you want about his odd line shuffling, whether it's 5on5 or if we're on the power play. Last year is when I noticed he tried to push all the right buttons with the slumping players (boyes, leino, roy) by patting them on the back and giving them a thumbs up even if they made a mistake. But if Roy and Boyes didn't want to buy in his coaching and take the low road by saying what a bad coach he is, well that tells you what kind of player they are. Even if I didn't like my boss/coach, I'd still respect his position and do what I can to help the team win. If he's so bad at coaching, go out and coach yourself. Some players might need an extra breather from taking an extra hit, other players are getting the chances but not burying them, a lot of it is mental and it's always a handful to deal with night in and night out; especially with an owner that has high expectations from you. Does Ruff make mistakes? Sure. Is he the perfect coach? Not by a long shot. Neither is Bylsma and Babcock. Point is, He's going to be our coach for next 2+ years. And under his tenure, we have 1 stanley cup finals, 3 conference finals and made the play-offs 8 times out of the 14 years he coached the team. 556 Wins and 442 Losses and 83 OTL. He's got more experience than any coach active in the NHL right now and wants to win that cup.
As for Doan; GMs are getting impatient and say it's not fair the NHL can pay for players to play on a team that may have no future. If we really are that team who's giving Doan 7.5 mil, who gives a sh*t? It's not our money; where else are we gonna spend it for these UFAs? We land Doan, we land 3 scoring lines; which Lindy just loves. Why? Because some nights some players have it and others don't where other nights can be a different story.

Sorry, there doesn't sound to be a whole lot of room for Gerbe (which sucks, because his work ethic is so high). I put Leino up on the 2nd line because he'll bounce back just like he did in Philly. If anyone knew Leino's situation with the Flyers, he had a bad first year too. He bounced back once, he will do it again. Personally, I'd like to see Doan on the second line to sort of re-create the line he had in Philly with Leino // Briere // Harnell. But again, that's all line shuffling and getting the right players to click.
