Weber for Giroux, thats what nashville should be asking for .Franchise player for franchise player - top shelf 15
No way in hell Flyers trade Giroux. |

I believe there is some clause in the CBA for offer sheets that prevents a team from trading a player for like 1 year after the signing. - dgutzman
Meh so you guys have to keep weber ,could be a worse case senario.Cant stand offer sheets .Seems like a female dog way of doing things .I hope you guys can trip up philly on their next important rfa |

If Poile trades Weber knowing he cant resign him ,does that mean the team that acquired him also as to match that offer in the prescribed time? - Alexzanki
If NSH matches, then the contract is done. No more discussions. If NSH then trades, the acquiring team inherits the new contract. The only question is when the trade happens and whether the Signing Bonus has already been played.

My Phillie comparison I meant to sat Nashville would have Weber + a bunch of 3rd/4th line guys. Philly would be stacked w/ Weber b/c of what they already have. |

With the lengths of contracts and amounts that have been thrown around this summer, it will be funny to see these owners whine they don't make money when those CBA negotiations start to really turn sour. |

To the dopes saying match & trade him in a year.
Yeah, match it & pay out $26million for the 1st year (a quarter of his 14yr 100mil in ONE season) & then trade him and expect to get more than 4 first round picks. Smh - yeah, good call. Someone should give you a GM job.
Enough with the ignorant Flyers cap comments - they can afford him - whether or not a 14 year deal is wise is another issue. This guy had at least one concussion that we know of - they say the 3rd concussion is when you enter the DANGER zone.
The phillies are a big market/big money team unlike Nashville. They could keep Cole Hamels, but then they probably can't afford to upgrade at 3B, LF, CF, & the bullpen. Having one star and all those holes - how's that working out for our baseball team this year? Guy who said they'd have Weber & a bunch of 3rd & 4th liners made a good point. Yeah, "keep Weber and the fans will keep coming". See how long that lasts when you're in last place b/c you can't afford anybody around him.
Claude Giroux, Mike Richards - these guy were picked in the 20's. The Preds picks would be top 5 after losing Weber and they'd have late 1st rounders in the 20's from the Flyers. They could build a young core of 6-8 great players over the next four years. That's how dynasties are built in sports. Then those players are so cheap you have $ to spend on FA & you already have the goalie.
The Flyers do the same damn thing every year - throwing huge $ at a free agent & now they're throwing huge $ at a RFA and also giving up 4 1st round picks. He's a helluva player but that's a HUGE commitment/risk. I thought we were turning things around last year building a young core with Schenn/Couturier/Voracek/Simmonds. Looks like we're going back to throwing money around - how many cups has that gotten us? - MeLLo
This is a little different. Flyers have thrown big money at older guys who were starting to decline. This guy is young and he fits right in with their core. Matte Carle just got $5.5 MM/yr. What are the Flyer's paying this guy? $8-9MM/yr? Totally worth it.
The draft picks the Flyers are giving up will be in the 20-30 range. IF the Preds are lucky, they may get one gem out of those picks. |

Weber must be fairly confident that nashville can't match, or at least pay this salary. He's pretty much indicated that he wants out, and now may have to stay for 14 years.
If nashville matches they may just trade him though. |

Preds were going to spend up to 62 million this year. They are 13 under the cap floor which is around 54. So they are currently at 41. So, they could get to 66 or so if they had too. If they could survive the 1st year, they would easily be able to handle the remaining years.
The real question is what happens with the CBA. If you are putting 26 million on the table, you had better hope the season starts on time b/c you are going to need all the revenue you an get.

Typical idiot comment. Show me one source where Weber is quoted as saying he wants out of NSH? Show me one video clip where he says that?

No, I would imagine Bettman is pissed. These are the types of things that happen that ruin the competitive balance and stability of the NHL. He is not happy, I promise you that. Especially if NSH doesn't match.

Wouldn't you? It's up to the Preds to match, but they have to keep him for a year and pay those bonuses. If they don't, the Flyers aren't obligated to give them anything but the draft picks. What would you be willing to give up for the Preds to walk away and not match? Certainly not front line players.

And if it is as is now being reported that it is 14 years at a 110, The Predators Match without even blinking an eye. It's only if it higher then 115+ that the Preds consider taking the draft picks. At 110 million, even with a front load, it would be about what he is making now.

He is even more upset if they match. How does he argue to PA that they have to roll back big contracts to save teams like the Preds when they throw $26m in one year at one player.
And Snider is one of his hawks on the negotiating committee.

I'm sure the fans in Nashville will keep coming to see a Defenseman + a bunch of jabronis miss the playoffs or one & done as an 8th seed. Spoiler Alert: A defenseman doesn't win you a cup. Ovechkin, Giroux, Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Weber - one of these "franchise players" does not belong.
If Nashville matches on Shea Weber they should change their goal horn to that "DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM" song from the Mormon South Park episode.

But he still signed it, to playi n philly. Which is where i was getting the idea that he might not want to be playing in nashville anymore. Its frontloaded insanely as well. |

What will happen is this: The Predators threaten to match (4 1st rounders is insufficient for a top 3 defenseman, and they have said they would, so it is consistent). The Predators demand a trade from the Flyers along the lines of what they've been trying to negotiate in order NOT to match, and the Flyers give up a great package in return for getting back some of the picks. |
