The will have to rebuild to keep their star ,its sad really .A good hard working small market team ,gets wiped out in one summer.Yep takes some off the silver of the cup if philly wins it this way

I don't think thsi was done out of the blue by the Flyers, especially given the relationship Holmgren and Poile have. I think while the offer is crazy with the signing bonus and amount of money the early years, it isn't crazy to think Nashville would match it. I believe the cap hit wouldn't be much different than Weber's was this year.

Maybe Nashville couldn't get Weber to sign a long-term deal to stay in Nashville on their own. Weber signs an offer sheet that could have been similar to what Nashville was going to offer- probably a little more and longer but this ensures Weber stays in Nashville or Nashville gets a pretty decent return in players if they decline to match. (I highly doubt they just take the draft picks).

Not gonna lie, if Weber ends up in Philly; it's going to be tough not to love that team.

As much as I'm supposed to (and do) hate the Flyers...Weber is easily my favourite dman.

Although seeing Homer cheat the CBA and continuously hand out these contracts is just sad and embarrassing for the league.

il just cheer for him in the olympics.

well if there is no hockey this year, phili will be the team to point the finger at as to why we are watching curling on saturday night instead of HNIC.

cant say it enough, organization has been run by criminals for years and years, this doesnt suprise me at all.

Bingo ,why have rules if they dont apply to all teams.Winning a cup with a roster you built from the ground up is something great to see .Too bad all the rich teams have to do is steal one

I agree the CBA and circumventing the cap needs to be reevaluated. I'm not arguing against or for the Flyers or other teams that have signed players to offer sheets. I personally don't like it either. I didn't like when the Flyers did it with Gratton and Kesler, Rangers with Sakic, Edmonton with Vanek and Penner, Carolina with Fedorov....

too many what if's.

id say they are a bunch of dirt balls looking to pick up the best D man in the game from a team that has very little money. of course right before the CBA is settled, typical.

How, exactly, is the CBA being cheated? The CBA allows offer sheets. It's a valid tactic to make your team better.

One can debate the "honor" of such a tactic, but it's certainly not cheating by the letter of the law.

It's not the money that bothers me...could care less about that, it's the "oh look, we found a small hole in the CBA, let's exploit it because it's there"

Suddenly financial advisors may as well GM the team.

It is a good buisness move for sure ,but i look at it as stealing. They have taken all of nashvilles options on getting a return they wanted.

Talking about the 168 year contracts.

EDIT: The ones that pay guys $20 a year for the last 5 years to drop the AAV

i dont get why everyone thinks this is stealing... its not like its some loophole tahts just been discovered... every gm knows theyre risking an offer sheet if htey let their rfas play out into the summer... some team misses out on a big name UFA and are desperate and weber is on the table? i think GMs are retarded not to take a shot at him... same thing shoulda happened with stamkos... i understand GMs have their unspoken agreement but if your not looking at all ways of making your team better your not doing your job as a GM... i thinks guts not theft

Yea is great to see a team tank for several years and collect several top picks to win a cup and then not be able to afford players after (Chicago - Pitt (Oilers in the future)) compared to a team that year in and year out manages their cap and is in the playoffs by picking up players through drafting, trading and free agency......

Yep ,it just doesnt seem in the best traditions of fair play.I want my team to have to beat the best by being the best .Not by crushing weaker teams and poaching their tallent and ensuring they remain weak

oh right because the oilers fans and players LOVE being dead last every year, actually they go out of there way just to make sure, and they rig the system so they get first pick even when they dont end up in 30th.

good call, no call.

But throwing out 110 million deals to ensure a small margin of teams can play in the league ,sounds like fun

In this particular case...I think we're talking about two separate things.

Being a Jays fan and a Leafs fan we were living the best and worst of both worlds.

Leafs could spend whatever they want and out bid the small market teams
Jays have a budget and get crushed by the Yanks and BoSox every year

Having said that...if teams have money they want to spend, let them. Nashville has had plenty of time to sign or deal Weber in this case and unfortunately for the smaller marker teams in situations like this maybe taking your time waiting for the best offer isn't the smartest thing to do because Joe-BigMarket might step in and screw you.

probably should have... i was kinda annoyed no one did... i think its a GMs job to lock up their RFAs... not hang them out all summer "knowing" no one will offer sheet them... how about they just get the guy locked up if hes that important to the team?

Sure might as well .How about we just have the richest teams just play for the cup ,because thats where we are headed .Great you can win a cup in a six or seven team league and you can boast how great it is
