@DarrenDreger:
Its going to be fascinating to see financial terms of Weber's offer sheet. Hearing in one calendar year, he could make $26 mil.
not a chance the preds match. |

Agreed, but he may not want to come back and an auction may happen. Maybe Philly actually works out a deal for him, before the completion of the process. - PrinceLH
If he didnt want to be in Nashville he wouldnt sign and offer sheet that is matchable. Good cap hit. If he wanted out he could of just told Poile to trade him. |

wtf, 14 years?
The Flyers signing Weber would be great - although I do feel bad for Nashville - but 14 years is about twice as long as any contract should be in the NHL...or any sport for that matter. |
|
|
|
Yeah cause they're just willing to shell out 100+ million to one single player. If its heavy front loaded, they'll certainly be in trouble. - JamieS
If they're D-core completely disintegrates in 1 off-season how long till Rinne asks for a trade?...how does a Preds team with Mike Fisher as their star player last? Hands are tied have to retain him to be competitive. If they lose weber, Suter and Rinne the franchise lasts 5-10 years tops before it moves... |
|
|
|
something fishy about this just from Weber's POV...
if you dont want to be in NSH, why would you sign a 14 year deal and give Nashville the final word?
Why not either play one more season in NSH and head to UFA or demand a trade to a team that you would play for long term...?

In what year... its possible its the 2nd year.... but more likely flyers deliberately structured it so the Preds would have a financial difficulty matching |

Well, Nashville may well match the offer sheet, just as David Poile promised to do. I wonder if the years will prevent that. Or, perhaps the Flyers front loaded the damned thing so much that the Preds would be hard pressed to match.
It's a move of pure balls, considering that Paul Holmgren and David Poile have had a very good relationship for the past several years. According to Dreger, the Flyers have allowed several deadlines to pass in an effort to trade for Weber, and Poile had to know this was coming.
Still, it's definitely a kind of "(frank) your buddy" move.
If Nashville does match, Weber can not be traded for one calendar year. I'm also sure that the deal includes a full NMC, as well as massive bonuses. So much for the Flyers standing pat |

3rd with a bullit! Finally!! Something worth talking about! Don't want to see him in Philly. Between them, the Rangers and the Penguins, they seem to get every decent free agent, that hits the market. At least Holmgren has balls.........UNLIKE YOU BRIAN BURKE!!!! - JohnnyReb
How about you worry about your own team and not drag BB or the leafs into this? |
|
|
|
Where does Philly get all this cap space Figures it'd be Homer who'd light up a stagnant FA period with an offer like this! Good on him! |

No way the preds don't match the only reason weber probably even signed was because he knew these crazy deals wouldn't happen after the new CBA. It's a good move for everyone Shea gets his contract Nashville keeps it's star and the flyers made a good effort. |

Barring any crazy guaranteed bonus $, I would be shocked if Nashville didn't match. He is the franchise. - kent
I can see a sign and trade, from Nashville. Probably from the Penguins or Rangers. They aren't about to let Philly get away with this. The Preds need tangible assets, in return for Weber. How can they sell this team to the local fans, with both Suter and Weber now gone. Maybe we see a very good forward and defenceman, going the other way, with some picks and prospects. This is not a good day to be a Predators fan! |

Maybe because he's pretty certain next year the max he'll get is 7 years? That's my only thought. |
