Jesus Christ! 14 years... 14 mill per year for the first 4 years... 12 mill per year for years 5 and 6... That's a lot of cash.
Also, how is this not cap circumvention?

80 Million paid out by the time Weber is 32. That is over 70% of the entire value of the contract. Not to mention there is no possible reason to think that Weber's play will decrease that significantly from age 32 to 33. This has to be cap circumvention. |

exactly... well (frank)in played... why is everyone so pissed... the other teams shoulda pulled the trigger instead of doing the less obvious version of exactly what philly did... the other teams are trying to low ball nash with their offers or one would have been accepted already... it was a great move by philly to get a guy they wanted.... done and done - DarcyTucker16
I think you're totally missing the point. It has nothing to do with the offersheet. Like many other contracts, that have been investigated, and complained about by many fans, and in one case (Kovalchuk), penalized.
There is nothing wrong with the offer sheet. It's the retarded contract designed to circumvent the cap that people have an issue with. |

It's textbook circumvention, and I'd say just as bad, if not worse than the contract Jersey was penalized for. |

i don't think anyone's pissed that the flyers offersheeted weber... it's the contract that people have an issue with. this is just another stupid contract added onto the already huge list of parise, suter, kovy, luongo, hossa, etc... hell even brad richards. - rangerdanger94
i think its split... do we even know what the format is yet? i thought it was speculation? and a lot of people are pissed about the offer sheet because it doesnt happen that often... its the leagues problem to fix the contract situation... if you as a GM are not trying everything you can within the rules to make your team better then your not doing your job... if the nhl doesnt cancel this contract then it was clearly within the rules... and a job well done |

So... say Nashville doesn't match and gets Philly's next four first rounders. If Philly gets penalized by the league, they might not have a first round pick for the next 5 or 6 years |

i think its better... i hate the fact taht getting last is now a good thing... i understand rebuilding but what edmontons management is doing is stupid... theyve literally done nothing to improve that team... early someone argued that sports is about competition and not wallets... please enlighten me on how edmonton has competed these last 4 years? - DarcyTucker16

Nashville will match the offer for sure, with Suter gone, it would be a giant blow to lose Weber and Suter in the same offseason. |

NO its not because most of the salary is bonus money just like in parise and suter my guess is his salary is only 2mill the first two years which is hy the last can be 1mill |

I haven't seen a single person complain about the offer sheet in principle. It's the contract that they did it with. I think you're severly misunderstanding people here. Look at the contract someone just posted above.
Not that we needed to see it. We knew that it was at least $26M in the first season of a 14 year contract (first two years, really, and close to $35M).
That's a third of the contract paid out int he first two years, for a contract that goes into his 40s. I’m not sure how anyone can argue that isn’t blatant cap circumvention. |

"According to Nick Kypreos, the Flyers offered Weber $110 million. Here’s the breakdown. These years don’t even sound real.
2012-2013 through 2015-2016 (4 seasons): $1 million salary + $13 million signing bonus per-- $56 million
2016-2017 through 2017-2018 (2 seasons): $4 million salary + $8 million signing bonus per-- $24 million
2018-2019 through 2021-2022 (4 seasons): $6 million salary per-- $24 million
2022-2023 (1 season): $3 million salary per-- $3 million
2023-2024 through 2025-2026 (3 seasons): $1 million salary per-- $3 million
Total? $110 million
What does that mean? It means that Weber would receive $27 million before the start of next season (two $13 million signing bonuses + $ 1 million in salary for the 2012-2013 season). $41 million by July 1st of 2014. In total, $56 million over first four years of the deal.
The average annual value of the deal would be $7.85 million, the Flyers' cap hit.
Match that, Nashville." |

ya exactly look at the contract above... if the league approves of it then there is nothing wrong with it... Its up to the league to fix stuff not the flyers... if the league cancels it then everything is back to before... i really dont get how people can be pissed about this |

Well, that would nullify the contract though. Jersey had to renegotiate with Kovalchuk, and find a contract acceptable.
Nashville’s dream is to take the picks, have someone else screw Philly for Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, and those picks end up very good ones.

This has nothing to do with Bobby Ryan... - isles10289
Yes it does. If the Predators do what I think they will, then Holmgren will trade players for the picks in return for the Preds NOT matching (Gratton deal), unless of course the Predators match and Holmgren has kept Weber away from the rest of the East.
Holmgren can't trade for Ryan if he is going to trade for Weber. If he doesn't get Weber, he trades for Ryan.

The Kovalchuk rules outline exactly what is acceptable when it comes to frontloading contracts. If this complies with that rule (and the rest of the CBA, obviously), it's not cap circumvention. |

Suicide for Nashville. It's worse than I thought so the 26 mil is a signing bonus and doesn't include a 7+ mil salary.
