The Flyers should be a MORE desperate team than Nashville since they haven't won a Cup since 1975. I'd do everything possible to get Weber because he could be the difference. If Nashville matches, it's a big lost opportunity.

Billionaire's who go into the business of buying sports franchise's (especially those in smaller markets) with the idea they are going to make a profit should not be owners. The only exception is the NFL which understands the concept of revenue sharing and its importance better than any other league.


Pony up the money Nashville, the cap hit is reasonable. History will tell you in order to win the cup you usually need a franchise defensemen.

In fact he gets paid $27m over a one year period. But, it covers two years of bonus and almost all his salary for both years.

The timing of the bonuses is relevant for a small market team. Whoever gets Weber will pay him a lot of money up front for the next six seasons.

I think that's easy to say from here. But when you're so close to landing a franchise defenseman, I'd be willing to part with something else to make sure it happens.

The relationship between Homer and Poile is already in a shambles now, there's no reason to give up assets in an effort to smooth things over, with Poile, or with the League. The goal is to win a Stanley Cup, and getting Weber while not giving anything up from the current roster puts the Flyers much closer to that goal.

As for cap-compliance, it shouldn't be too tough for them to just make a few tweaks to get back under the upper-limit with Weber on board.

Only temporarely. Weber will cost less in future years. Financing 19M at 5% is 1M per year, and decreasing over time. For me, that's what it is, an extra 1M per year to keep Weber. Losing Weber = losing more than 1M in revenues probably, so decision is not that tuff. As I said, I would match being Nashville owner. Just can't lose Weber.

I hate to burst your troll-bubble but not sure the press could finance the cost at 5%. That is close to the best rates available to safe invesments. The business is losing money. It is a high risk business. A lender would only lend at such a low rate to a low risk. So either one of the owners is putting up their own money and collateral. So they have to make the same assesment. All I it feeds into the same financial dilemma that everyone has been saying about ticket revenue and risk of work stoppage. If it was so easy for the preds, they would have just done it by now. Bottom line is that there will Likey be a gratton deal and that homer save coots and the schenns and coburn by doing he OS move. Another bottom line, your grapes are sour.

The Flyers cannot give up 3 Players and 3 first Rounders for Weber. They dont even have too!! I know they want to save face, but you cannot give up that much for opne player. haven't they learned their l;esson about youth and keeping depth! They gotta hold ontot Vorcek at all costs. he is slated to fill in the Giroux line. Don't forget we lost 2 top 6 forwards already. Nashville keeps 2 first rounders and trade Bourdon, Mez, a 2nd and a 3rd for two 1st's back...KEEP VORACEK!!

another point of view that now needs to be considered is do they bring back a guy who, at least through the voice of his agent, has made it clear he does not want to be a part of nashville any longer? He will be a malcontent, and the fans will turn on the franchise player who will be there for the next 14 years.

on the other hand they just offered him a 1 yr tender when he was clearly a franchise plyr, but he still was captain and had a great season. he's a pro.
