Something along the lines of Voracek, Meszaros, Marc-Andre Bourdon and two or three of the four first-round picks staying with Nashville in exchange for not matching Weber offer sheet and sending one/two of the first round picks back.
The Predators could probably have extracted a higher price in trade if they hadn't waited so long, but the above would still be a good return under the circumstances. - bmeltzer
The Flyers cannot give up 3 Players and 3 first Rounders for Weber. They dont even have too!! I know they want to save face, but you cannot give up that much for opne player. haven't they learned their l;esson about youth and keeping depth! They gotta hold ontot Vorcek at all costs. he is slated to fill in the Giroux line. Don't forget we lost 2 top 6 forwards already. Nashville keeps 2 first rounders and trade Bourdon, Mez, a 2nd and a 3rd for two 1st's back...KEEP VORACEK!! |

Weber will be a Flyer next Wednesday. Zero chance Holmgren tries to make 3 blockbuster moves and goes 0-3. Already lost out on Parise and Suter while offering them the most money, not a chance in the world Nashville is able to match this contract, especially with uncertainty ahead on the labor front.
Book it! - PLindbergh31

In Bills article he has Voracek, Meszy, MaB, and 2 or 3 firsts.. I would say no to that in a normal trading situation.

I don't like Voracek in a trade either, but if we're talking Voracek and Mez... hmm I'd be hardpressed to do it. |

I'm amazed that the Flyers would even consider trading players for Weber when they have an offer sheet in that probably can't be matched. Even if its matched the Flyers lose out on Weber and life goes on. There are other ways to build a championship caliber team. The Flyers will have the money to upgrade this team and it just doesnt make sense to me to give into Nashville. Let them match and pay that outrageous contract of Weber. |

Funny seeing a bunch of fans comming up with all kinds of stuff to convince each other that Weber is coming over. Don't get me wrong, I would do the same and be as excited, but as an outsider here with more realism, sorry, but Nashville will match for sure. Your 4 late 1st rounders are far from enough to not match the offer.
They'll find the 27M for the 1st year, no problem. Weber will just cost way less after that every year that goes buy. It's not that complicated, it's just shifting money around at the cost of some interest, which is not that much in their global budget. Just takes an accountant to bring back people to reality. - Habs Rule

I hate to burst your troll-bubble but not sure the press could finance the cost at 5%. That is close to the best rates available to safe invesments. The business is losing money. It is a high risk business. A lender would only lend at such a low rate to a low risk. So either one of the owners is putting up their own money and collateral. So they have to make the same assesment. All I it feeds into the same financial dilemma that everyone has been saying about ticket revenue and risk of work stoppage. If it was so easy for the preds, they would have just done it by now. Bottom line is that there will Likey be a gratton deal and that homer save coots and the schenns and coburn by doing he OS move. Another bottom line, your grapes are sour. - FlyersFirst

So how long after the decision does Poile lose his job? Hours, days or a week or two? |

Only temporarely. Weber will cost less in future years. Financing 19M at 5% is 1M per year, and decreasing over time. For me, that's what it is, an extra 1M per year to keep Weber. Losing Weber = losing more than 1M in revenues probably, so decision is not that tuff. As I said, I would match being Nashville owner. Just can't lose Weber. - Habs Rule

and what hes going to cover the Preds for 130 Mill in potential loses over the next six years? he didnt become a billionaire by being stupid. there is a reason he only has 5% of the preds. - Philly1980
The reason he only has 5% is because that was the portion that was offered.
"We’re never going to let people not from here (have) more than a certain percentage of ownership,” Cigarran said.
Also with regards to sports ownership,
"Truth be known, there are usually better pure investments than sports franchises,” said John Vrooman, a sports economist at Vanderbilt University. “The sports business is no place for cold, hard financial numbers crunchers. "
The cap hit is reasonable.. The investment is large on the front end, but losing a marquee player will have a bigger drain on the box office than long term. Nashville will take the time they need to try to determine the impact of ticket sales, playoff viability etc with and without Weber. I am guessing the numbers say keep him.
I would be more than happy to see Weber out of the western conference. |
