I hate to burst your troll-bubble but not sure the preds could finance the cost at 5%. That is close to the best rates available to safe invesments. The business is losing money. It is a high risk business. A lender would only lend at such a low rate to a low risk. So either one of the owners is putting up their own money and collateral. So they have to make the same assesment. All Of it feeds into the same financial dilemma that everyone has been saying here about ticket revenue and risk of work stoppage. If it was so easy for the preds, they would have just done it by now. Bottom line is that there will Likey be a gratton deal and that homer save coots and the schenns and coburn by doing the OS move. Another bottom line, your grapes are sour, bud - FlyersFirst

In all honesty...as much as I 1,000,000% disagree with those cap circumventing contracts, I give HUGE respect to Homer for constantly building and adding to his roster. He never settles and almost operates in a "everything is an option" attitude.
If Weber does in fact end up wearing orange and black it's going to make it real tough to hate Philly as much as I'm supposed to. Weber is hands down the ultimate replacement for Pronger and will be an amazing leader for guys like L.Schenn, something he didn't have in Toronto. |

The reason he only has 5% is because that was the portion that was offered.
"We’re never going to let people not from here (have) more than a certain percentage of ownership,” Cigarran said.
Also with regards to sports ownership,
"Truth be known, there are usually better pure investments than sports franchises,” said John Vrooman, a sports economist at Vanderbilt University. “The sports business is no place for cold, hard financial numbers crunchers. "
The cap hit is reasonable.. The investment is large on the front end, but losing a marquee player will have a bigger drain on the box office than long term. Nashville will take the time they need to try to determine the impact of ticket sales, playoff viability etc with and without Weber. I am guessing the numbers say keep him.
I would be more than happy to see Weber out of the western conference. - fsanford
Seriously what are they going to pay him with???? Monopoly Money. Analyse the financials over the next five years then come talk to me....Some billionaire is going to come in and save a player who doesnt want to go to the evil flyers....gimme a break man. .. the guy said hes done with nashville...signing him is a very big risk!
in fact if they do sign him it pretty much sinks that org financially...no one is going to want to come and see a loosing preds team anyways!
Its not impossible for them to match it would just be stupid.
What no one here has asked is that if he decided to sit out for a year or two does he still get the money... |

Fact remains, everything has to pass through a vote, and I don't think anybody can say with any certainty that the other investors holding the other 88-95% voting rights would be as comfortable with digging the any hole deeper.
And yeah, nobody buys a sports franchise with the expectations of turning a profit, but nobody buys one in the hopes of sinking their fortunes into a bottomless pit, either.

I hope something is done about the front loaded contracts. I feel big markets teams need some capacity to throw their money around, but these are clearly not good for pro hockey.
Also, I'm so hoping we get Weber, but that should be assumed. Much excitement. |

I absolutely loathe his opin but in no way did it warrant a report. He's actually bringing some good thinking to the board... oh wait isn't that against the rules? |
