Problem is the Flyers have Weber signed to an offer sheet now. They dont have to trade anyone. They can wait and say we made an effort to get Weber but Nashville decided to match. Theres nothing wrong with that. They have money to get other defenseman this year or next year if they like. Weber doesnt guarantee a cup. - stveshdy
Weber is in the top 3 defensemen in the league, if not #1. A Norris Trophy candidate. If getting him means giving up at minimum Read Meszaros and Bourdon, you don't make that trade simply because you think the offer sheet is enough? |

I think a trade is in the Flyers best interest. As difficult as it may be for Nash to match, they must. They can not possibly let Suter and Weber both walk away and only get picks for Weber to show for it. Homer has eliminated other possible trade partners and other potential offer sheet makers by his move, As much as the Flyers want Weber they cant hope Nash does not match, they need to make a fair trade |

No. the 11m figure I got was by adding increases to tix sales + Arena revenue + TV revenue. Assuming these figures are correct! - PT21
they've also lost about 40Mill during those years....bottom line is if there is no season they loose another 26... |

No. Your switching offers. I never said anything about the players you just posted. I said I wouldnt give up any of those young core players such as Schenn or Couturier, plus others, plus picks. |

i could see it
but it'd suck to lose them if Nashville was bluffing - Crimsoninja
you figure Weber is worth 4 first rounders and the Schenn bros and 2#1s would be equal |

Absolutely the signing bonus affects the cap hit. A signing bonus is just salary paid up front. - MJL
You misinterpreted my statement. What I meant was as far as the cap hit goes....it doesn't matter whether the money is either salary or signing bonus. Other than the early years of the deal being heavy on signing bonus.....how is this deal any different from the Parise/Suter deals just signed? |
|
|
|
Maybe I'm looking at this offer sheet completely different. The Flyers offered him a sheet knowing he could end up in Nashville. They tried to work out a deal but Homer doesnt want to give up his young guys. Why would they trade the Schenn's and 1st round picks for Weber now? I dont get it. - stveshdy
It closes the door on every other team from acquiring Weber right now and puts Nashville in a tough position financially to match it immediately. This was done after Nashville was asking too much for him... The Flyers do not want Nashville to match it- they want Weber. You don't offer sheet players you don't really want.
There is a certain point in giving up young players that Homer will go to acquire Weber. |

I'll just sit back and wait to see what happens. Schenn Bros plus picks would be done already for Weber but I have the feeling the Preds said NO. They want Couturier and Schenn or atleast one plus much more. |

You said you don't have to trade anyone. If it means getting Weber, I wouldn't just say match or don't match. You have to consider moving some pieces to make certain Nashville doesnt match |

Because they wanted Couturier AND Schenn.
Don't see Homer moving Schenn brothers though. |

You dont have to trade anyone. The Flyers have the option to wait and see if the Preds match. Which is what I prefer.
The Flyers arent forced to deal anyone. |

Giving up more for Weber weakens the team IMO. Your getting one player back and letting go multiple on top of what you already lost.
How is that better? - stveshdy
we would have the cap space to do more and essentially will have replaced carle with weber at the cost of schenn and JVR. we let jagr and carle walk because they were overpaid. id rather have weber and doan/semin and we'd def would be better
certainly, I'd rather move read or jake and a dman. |

Yesterday Morganti said that it might take a while for the Preds to respond because their ownership is multiple parties that are spread all over, giving the impression they must convene. What's wrong with the telephone? - 2731color
Yeah. You can set up a conference call in a few minutes these days. |
