I'm feeling really good about the Flyers chances. I just don't believe Nashville can match this offer. I think Weber and his agent know that and it's was an easy move to sign the offer sheet. I could be wrong but that's what I believe. - stveshdy
I've got a nagging feeling that Nashville will match.
Despite putting a very good team on the ice, that organization is holding on by it's fingernails because of the grace of a lot of public funding. If the team suffers in attendance, downtown Nashville will feel the effect and the city won't like that.
First Suter, now Weber? The team will take a massive PR hit which most likely would mean a drop in attendance. I'm envisioning the Preds will use this tact to convince the city and/or state to squeeze more money into it's coffers, or perhaps even come up with another investor that it's been looking for (long shot), to make this happen. |

Not true at all. Just because they haven't announced matching it, doesn't mean they can't. It's a choice here. You, or I, or anyone else here, doesn't have any idea what kind of money they have "laying around". - MJL
Not too mention that you really can't crunch numbers for the next decade or so over lunch.

I disagree. There numbers don't lie. They had a chance to sign weber last year for $20m and balked. You saying they have the money is the same thing as me saying they don't have the money laying around. Will find out in due time but IMO they can't match that offer. |

Starting to think they match as well. Or the Flyers break down and trade them Voracek, Meszaros and 2 1s. |

This is going to be about Nashville making a decision one way or the other. And not about not being able to match the offer.

that's the reason I think that the only way to insure that we get weber is to make a deal. that way we have both the carrot and the stick to make it happen. it also allows NSH to save face. |

What numbers are they? Anyone who thinks they have all the numbers, is kidding themselves. I have the money to buy a new boat. But it doesn't make financial sense for me to buy it right now.
How much money does Nashville have to have "laying around" to match the offer?

not for the flyers, certainly not if they land him. weber's ready to move on. that's not on the flyers. and i think this is just as important as any other reason nashville will not match. why retain a player who doesn't want to be there, and deal with distractions all season, and have even less leverage in a year when trying to move him? it basically gives poile an out. weber gets to be the bad guy. - hammarby31

One of Weber's Agents also said this.
http://www.philly.com/phi...fer_sheet.html?page=2&c=y
Epp, the agent, acknowledged that Weber would enjoy becoming a Flyer, but that he would still feel comfortable if he returned to Nashville.
"He's had a successful career in Nashville and it's home, so it's not a place where he doesn't think he can't finish his career," Epp said. - MJL

They don't look at Forbes. They are 27 th in revenue. I'm sticking to them not matching. So there going to fork up 27m and there net worth is 160m and do that in one year? I don't see it. |

Forbes doesn't have all the numbers either. The NHLPA is challenging that Nashville hasn't reported their income accurately. Forbes isn't privy to the resources that the team has available to them. Does it make sense for them to match it? Maybe not. But they do have the ability to match it.
Again, how much money does Nashville have to have laying around to match the offer? |

Then why haven't they matched it if they have it? Why didn't they offer it? He's there franchise player. |

If they could match it would be done. The problem is they may have the money but there not going to make any money if they match. There a small market team they don't have that kind of money laying around. They need six owners all to agree and it's been reported that one owner wants to sell his share for $50M ( on crossing Broad. Com). Willl see what happens. - stveshdy
This I not necessarily true. There are several options. They could change the ownership equity percentage by having one owner supply capital. Other owners would have to agree. Also, one owner could provide a loan to the business to get through the cash crunch. Both have some risk though to the owner fronting the cash. However it might be the prudent hedge to protect his investment, and he would either earn interest on the loan or a greater stake in the company. |

The AAV isn't the issue. Nashville could most likely swing the $7.8 million. they have to determine if they want to disperse that much cash over the first 6 years and also take into account a potential work stoppage were they could lose the $13 million up front if there is no season, |

I think Weber would be fine playing in Nashville, but certainly prefers to play with the Flyers. Unfortunately for the Preds with CBA changes looming, it was in Weber's best interests to test his market worth even in a restricted market. Obviously, his market value is that of a top 5 player in the league regardless of position.
I agree with others, try and convince Poile to make a trade with players off the roster not named G, Coots, or Schenn. |
