If we get doan no need for Weber. the front 4 lines will be stellar. Come on Holmy, bring it home! |

Aye, there's dat, but I think that was more to scare away potential offer sheeters.
I don't think you are going to see much more of that at all. Nothing today, right? Guy has a very good chance of playing there for a very long time. - PT21
His agent did talk about Philly being his first choice again. One of the writers had an interview today I believe. |

Last summer was mind-blowing, but more to the heart strings. And I see why the moves were made.
This whole offer sheet choas, is waaaay more interesting in the sense of all the intricacies of the contract and how it seems Homer really paint Poile in the corner.
EDIT: I'd hate to play poker with Holmgren. |

I'm not equating voracek to a 2016 1st rd pick. I just won't do it. Mezsaros is worth a lot more than a 2015 1st rd pick as well. - jstross
I agree, but I would rather do the move that will gurantee that Weber will play for us.. |

I think it was the same interview. Unless you have a link that proves otherwise. |

i don't like either of those. Someone mentioned Simmonds before, I'd trade him before Jake if at all possible. 2 Schenns off limits for me.
Buy Did Luke ever have a presser? If not, you could be on to something. - wilsonecho91
This a very good point that has been overlooked. The Flyers traded for Luke Schenn almost 4 weeks ago and haven't had a press conference to introduce him.
I still believe it could cost the Flyers both Schenn brothers and draft pick for the Preds to not match the offer sheet.
This would also give Nashville something to market to their fan base.
Whether you over or under value Voracek, those that believe Jake and Meszaros and 2 1sts would get Nashville to decline matching have to put yourself in Poile's position and wonder why would you take on a defenseman coming off back surgery and another RFA. They would rather have Schenns under contract.

It is not out of the realm of possibility especially from Dreger's reports that Homer declined to include Schenn and Couturier in the package, but Poile could have asked for both Schenns and Couturier in the package and Homer said no way he was trading Brayden and Couturier. I'm sure he doesn't want to give up any Schenn or anyone to get Weber but if he has to give up players so Nashville declines to match the offer that the flyers strongly covet, Homer may have to part with both Schenns.
Again, the offer sheet was made with the hope the Flyers get Weber as well as remove all other teams interested from getting him via trade. One would have to believe Homer thought it might be possible he would have to trade players to ensure he gets Weber.
And if I'm Poile, I say to Homer: We can match this offer but we are willing to decline at the right price. You traded Sbisa, Lupul, 2 first rounders, and a 3rd for a 34 year old Pronger who was a season away from UFA.
You want a 26 year old Weber, it's going to cost you some players like the Schenn brothers if you really want him. |

I mentioned that earlier and that is the key everyone is ignoring. If the Preds were going to match "any offer sheet" and this was so great for Nashville, then why in the world would Poile spend his entire Wednesday working on a deal? Why not let the offer sheet roll in and then match it Thursday? BECAUSE THEY CAN'T MATCH AND THE FLYERS, WEBER, HIS AGENTS, and most of all NASHVILLE know it. You don't try to trade your franchise defenseman due to the threat of an offer sheet unless you already know that team has called your bluff. - Flyers1218
You can scream it all you want. They can match the offer. Whether they decide to do so, is another story. You make a trade if it makes more sense financially and for the future of your team, then matching it does.

The Flyers routinely acquire players during the summer and don;t have introductory PCs until several weeks later. Jagr signed on July 1st, and didn't get intro'd until August. Same thing with the PC for Simmonds, Schenn and Voracek in the wake of the Carter and Richards trades last year. Not to mention the Bryzgalov deal.

If I am Holmgren and Poile wants what I feel is an overpayment to decline matching, I tell him to go ahead and match. The Flyers have contingency plans. One of them is in Philly today meeting with the Flyers, named Shane Doan.

As if the Flyers didn’t have enough going on already. The Shea Weber Watch has fans excited beyond belief.
They might have something else to talk about.
According to John Gambadoro of Sports Talk Radio 620 KTAR in Phoenix, prized free agent Shane Doan is expected to meet with the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Doan has already met with the New York Rangers on Friday.
Doan would prefer to remain with the Coyotes, but the ownership situation may lead the captain elsewhere.
The 16 year veteran would be a great addition to the Orange and Black. He could provide veteran leadership for a rather young team, and could replace Jaromir Jagr on that first line. However, a few other teams have shown strong interest in Doan, including the Penguins, Red Wings, and Sharks. |
