I would rather see Knuble on a tryout than Doan with a 7 mil cap hit. |

Hey Bill,
Nice article. This is off-topic, but whats your opinion of Jamie McBain. He had a ruff year last year but I like his upside. Reminds me of Seidenberg. I think he could be had too with Carolina's depth on the blue line. Would you pursue? |

I like McBain, too. Not sure I agree on the depth of Carolina's blueline. They have some solid blueliners, but I think McBain and Faulk are seen as their future core. |

Id bring Knuble in as a guy to split time between the 3rd and 4th line. The penalties Sestito and Rinaldo rack up are going to get old, quickly. |

Zero harm in bringing in Knuble on a tryout. The only role I can see him fill is as a 3rd liner to add size and veteran presence, and maybe a part time PP guy, but I'd rather see a younger guy fill that role and develop. - Jsaquella

Maybe, but right now (barring injuries in the top five) he'd be just one more guy caught up in the sixth-D man competition numbers game along with Gervais, Bourdon, Gustafsson and Lilja. |

He is still very young... but i dont think he had a rough year last year.. just learning curves. He is a pretty solid young d-man who should be getting more important minutes this season..
My one big problem with him is his physicality (or should i say lack thereof)... Over the past two seasons he has a combined total of 56 hits. That makes Matt Carle look like a bad ass. |

No Knuble. I cant stand watching him skate....I was one of the few that wanted him out 4 years ago. Still dont want him back if hes cheaper. Let the kids grow. |

Keep Shelley send one of them down.... Blah Blah I know everyone dislikes Shelley but I would rather keep him around in the big club for the leader role and what he brings on the ice. Might not score or skates fast but he is one of those old school guys that will send to the locker room to get the cuts stitched!! |

There are already plenty of kids on the team. A few older veterans can't hurt, nor does everyone have to be a fast skater. You just don't want a team full of them.

Bill what do you think the holdup could be for MAB to sign? He can't ask for much mor money correct? Do you think the Flyers are trying to deal him due to him not being waiver exempt? I would guess they would want at least a camp out of him and the other Dmen before they do any deal. |

The criticism of Knuble's skating when he was a Flyer was completely off base. And his lack of skating speed was completely exaggerated and over blown. He was never a great skater, but in his prime, his skating was average and adequate for the NHL as a big man. Now if he has lost a step or two in his later years, it could be a problem. |

What, exactly, does he bring on the ice? An occasional fight with another team's goon? I don't disagree with the leadership role or veteran presence, but Knuble brings the same thing and might actually be able to fill a role as a player.
If they need a veteran presence, I'd rather it be a guy like Arnott. If Doan wasn't likely to get $7.5mm and 4 years, he'd be the ideal choice. |

They have Murphy and Sanguinetti, who supposedly showed signs of finally putting it together last year, in the wings and really nothing offensively. It seems that the Flyers are only willing to part with Read in a trade and I think McBain is the type of defensemen that could be had for him. |

I wouldn't trade Read for McBain, though. Read's a valuable player, who I'd only move now for a guy that's a definite fit that can step in and fill a top four role or top six role.
I realize Read can not get that by himself, but rather as part of a package. I like the potential of McBain as a puck mover, but I agree with Bill that, right now, he's fighting for time with Gervais, Gustafsson, Bourdon & perhaps Manning |

Apparently last week, while he was training in Slovakia. It means that the Flyers need another defenseman. |
