I'd like to see as many guys as possible playing during any stoppage, be it on Jagr's team or elsewhere. The veterans on the Flyers during the last stoppage were hurt by their inactivity.

Haven't been around the Buzz as much as usual so it's probably been discussed, but what are the requirements to play in the AHL? Waiver exemption or something like that?

I think there will be at least 5-6 veterans who play overseas. I figure Bryzgalov will play in the KHL, Giroux will go somewhere (Switzerland perhaps), Voracek to Kladno in the Czech Extraliga, Timonen (health dependent) to KalPa, Grossmann to a team in Sweden (AIK, perhaps), Hartnell to either KalPa or Kladno. There could be others.

Among the younger players, Couturier, B. Schenn, Rinaldo, Wellwood and Gustafsson are all eligible to be assigned to the Phantoms.

There are also other considerations, such as the AHL's "veteran" rule, but yes, the waiver-exempt players on entry-level contracts are all eligible for AHL play.

Per AHL rules: "Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a regular-season game, at least 13 must be qualified as development players. Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL, IHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season."

I thought Cal Heeter was slated to play with Hovinen.

I'd rather see the kids get the minutes. Munroe is a more than capable AHL goalie, but I want to see Hovinen & Heeter get the work

Homer cant have enough quality goaltending

I'd rather see the kids get the minutes. Munroe is a more than capable AHL goalie, but I want to see Hovinen & Heeter get the work

Same here.. I'd like to see some of these young guys getting groomed, and having the chance to prove themselves.

Young hockey goalies are like a box of chocolates - Never know what you're gonna get until you open them up and give them a try...

The insurance issue can be worked out, but would be a time-consuming process. Even so, as I wrote in the blog, I am really not expecting Giroux to play for Kladno during a lockout and the odds are also against Hartnell going there.

Pssh.. he kissed his representative status goodbye the minute he went all Benedict Arnold on them signing that contract.

He'd stay here through Sept 15 for sure and probably into early/mid October, but beyond that, he and other NHL players (including team union reps) would look for places to actually play hockey until the lockout ends.

Too bad the flyers couldn't force the phantoms to play in Philly until the lockout ends. Its not like Glenns Falls was anything other then a stopgap unitl the team moves back to Allentown anyways.

Elitserien has ruled that teams cannot sign NHL players to short-term contracts in the event of a lockout. If they sign, players must stay the whole season in accordance with the league's current rules.
