We will see. It only works if the owners aren't willing to scrap the season. Hacking them off pushes it closer to reality. That garbage of making them wait hours to show up isn't helping.
The owners got their money for the year so I can see them sticking the middle finger up and say see ya next year. Most of the players aren't going to make their money they would have made and won't get that money back.
For some of the elite players this would take away another season where they can't pad their career stats
If I was an owner I'd walk away and let Fehr know that he has a good idea of what we want and until he has a proposal that gets it closer to that end don't bother calling any more meetings |

I find it comical if anybody is dumb enough to buy into this. There are players present at every meeting. Owners are not permitted to attend. 8 owners can veto a deal. Not 14 or 16, but 8. The nhl's offer is not paying out the current contracts yet bettman says it is. Fehr is clearly no angel in this dispute either. However to even consider siding with Bettman after he and Daly continue to lie about their offers is pathetic. |

When the season is lost the biggest losers willmbe the players. They would lose a years salary they will never get back. Some will have to retire and go get a JOB! If they lose a season, Fehr would have screwed the players. |

So what your saying is when any union gets locked out they should just bend over and take any offer. What a stupid comment. You need to stop reading the comments by Guerin and Co after the last lockout. There where only a couple of guys got paid during last lockout because it was in their contract. This yr there are a pile of them. How about the Wild owner? I bet he loses over 30 mil this yr. Nashville owner? Give your head a few more bangs on the wall. |

No, but when the offer is still way better in terms of percentages in relation to your peers (NBA, NFL, etc.), they absolutely should. The NHL is the red-headed stepchild of professional sports. The sooner the players and their average IQ's of 30 realize this, the better off we'll all be. |

No, making ad-hominem attacks is stupid. This isn't any proposal, it is a 50/50 split of HRR which they already know they are going to end up with (at best).
Fehr is playing poker alright but it is with all of the players money. I say give them them until 12/1 to get it figured out and if they can't, pull the plug already. |

Right now there is huge pressure being put on the League by it's sponsors to get a deal done, and start playing. That is why the League is so frustrated with the negotiations, and why they were willing to add in 200M to make whole. I think they players have a ton to lose if there is a closes Season. But don't kid yourself on what the League is faced with, if there is a lost Season. And right now, I think there is more pressure on the League to get a deal done, then there is on the players.

One of the most ridiculous premises that has come out of all this by a lot of the fans, is that the players aren't intelligent, and can't figure out what is really happening. It's hysterical.

The comments they've posted on twitter is one of the reasons why. They all keep opening their mouths and making themselves look unintelligent.
Pretty much the only player that has said something and didn't get completely ripped apart for it by the media was Miller, and that's because what he said was well thought out and made sense. |

The owners have varified the players offer is 50/50 wise guy. Players refuse a rollback. And with how frantic owners were signing players to new deals only hrs before the cba expired, you can't blame them. NHL always compares themselves to the NBA(very seldom the NFL) players would take the NBA deal and run. Soft cap, little to no revenue sharing. The NHL needs to decide if it is more interested in all the teams being competitive or all making money. |

Exactly, and even if they couldn't, somebody close to them can. The players are at every meeting so they are well informed. Owners are not at the meeting. Wonder if the owners are misinformed? Couldn't be, cause Bettman says. Any 8 owners can veto a deal. Boy that makes sense. |

These two things kind of go hand in hand. If a team is competitive, it puts butts in the seats and those butts bring in revenue. The reason why Columbus has a poor fan base is because of the poor product put on the ice on a yearly basis. Their fans there are actually really great, but at some point you can't keep paying to see mediocrity.

I wasn't aware of the 8 owner thing, but it's kind of ridiculous. Shouldn't the majority rule? I'm pretty sure if you subtract 8 from 30, that leaves 22, which if my understanding of math is correct, means that the 22 are the majority, right???? |

Fehr may just be cool enough to lose the players a years worth of salary and less than a 50/50 split when this thing is all said and done. Billionaires typically don't like to be played and when they are they tend to push back hard.
Hope he knows what he's doing.

No your missing the point. NBA and MLB have your high rollers, your middle class and your teams that are always crap. Every league has 5-8 teams that control the revenue. They are the bigg boys yr in yr out. Why should they support the little team. Their luxery taxes pay for the garbage teams to actually have a team. All the teams as a whole are doing far better then the teams in the NHL. Besides Tor and Edm are garbage every season and make money. If you can't make money then either fold your excuse for a team or move them. |

Exactly, like I said the owners are being idiots. Even if it was like 14 -16 wasn't enough to accept. But 8? Complete horsepoop. |

This is why I am surprised the NHL is even close to a 50/50 split. Half if not more of the teams are "losing"money and if they're not they aren't making much. I'm surprised the owners don't just put the boots to the NHLPA and start over two years from now when every single player will be begging for a job. |

I don't think you were understanding what I was saying. I get what you're saying, and on so many levels, you're absolutely right. But the NHL isn't going to just let teams fold. Not if Bettman is the commissioner. It's probably good for the league in some respects if they do downsize a bit, but I doubt you see that happen.

I do like that idea. Teams like Rangers, Leafs, Flyers, Wings, Hawks, Habs, Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Bruins, Sens, Pens, a team in Quebec City, Jets could start a league where everybody supports themselves and you don't revenue share. The rest of the sad sack, sorry excuse for an NHL franchises can show their team and the constant need for hand outs up their as$. There would be so much talent on every team, and the players would be playing in front of actual hockey fans. I like your idea a lot. Sign me up |

So what your saying is the NHL has issues of their own to work out, but instead try to blame the players to the media? |
