what is Wellwood doing or not doing to be a healthy scratch? - ob18
He isn't using his speed to get in the forecheck or create transition chances will enough regularity. He also hasn't been involved enough along the walls. Murray has reportedly told Wellwood he wants to see more assertiveness.
The scratching on Wednesday was probably a message of sorts. The ones on Friday and Saturday were probably because the team has been playing well and winning this week so he's going to have to work a bit to get back in the lineup.

The Flyers should trade for Simon Gagne as soon as the lockout is over. No one else seems to be able to score on Henrik Lundqvist. - Jsaquella
They like to struggle against Lundqvist. |

Canadian TV had the 1976 Flyers Soviet game on last night.
I thought Rick MacLeish was the best skater on the ice that night, including the Russians.
I wonder how he would do playing against today's competition?
For tough guys, Big Bird Saleski and Bob The Hound Kelly were pretty good skaters too.
I love watching that team. My boyhood heroes. |

Pretty good article by Larry Brooks of the NY Post

I find myself in agreement with nearly everything Brooks wrote.
I'm stunned that the so called 'militant' owners seem to be in charge of the negotiations. |

It's stunning just how easy this whole mess would have been to avoid, with both sides reaping benefits of a healthy league. - Jsaquella
Hope you survived without too much damage from that b*tch Sandy. I was thinking about you and Tangent Man and all the regulars that live at the Jersey Shore. |

Very few issues for me, Marc. Thanks for the kind thoughts. We lost power a few times, but none longer than a minute or two, and our cable went out for about 90 minutes. |

I just really underestimated the sheer stupidity and need to "win" the negotiations by both Bettman & Fehr.
I figured, at the latest, we'd see a deal by US Thanksgiving. Figured no way we lost the Winter Classic. Just sheer idiocy by both sides. |

Sadly I felt differently if something wasn't done early on, while I still have some hope for it to be done soon, I would not be shocked at all to see it continue on. |

I have not had that much fun in a long time, I had goose bumps when the game started. I sat next to rangers and devils fans and we all had a great time.
A few high points for me were when hank lost his stick and it got swatted down the ice, and when Bobby Ryan wiped out and did the paddling motion.
Hank was nothing short of outstanding, im also convinced any goalie with orange numbers on his back will do bad as marty looked awful lastnight lol ( I know hes rusty, its just a joke )
Finally getting to wear my German imported berlin Jersey was pretty sweet as well lol. |

Thanks for thinking of us, Marc. Like Jsaq, our damage was minimal; we only lost a tree that fell in the only direction that avoided property damage to ourselves or neighbors. The eye passed directly over my area near Ocean City...had it made landfall further south, things could have been a lot worse, but it did take out some local businesses and a fishing pier on the bay about a mile from my house.
The barrier islands took a pounding, regardless of where the eye passed.
The pavilion was moved off of the pier on which it sat for many, many years.

Another high point on the evening: Asham and Carcillo are given offestting roughing minors, meaning they beach get a penalty shot
I loved that Kerry Frasier was the referee. |
