Not uncommon that a non insider lucks onto a story and the status quo establishment lashes out in anger and jealousy. My guess is he got the right story. But Bettman and Fehr are trying to manage this as a win for players and owners. I think someone slipped up and fed Burton some inside dope and now the system is trying to protect the unfolding of the story in the way thy had hoped it would break.

I don't believe that the players can negotiate a deal with owners. The suggestion is ludicrous. If something comes out of today's negotiations, it is because Fehr and Bettman have already baked the cake.

No idea about sources except to agree that most sources have been putting out stories that come from one side or another that they are aligned with. No reason to assume that someone outside that process might stumble on to soemthng.

I find the timing a bit odd though as I don't believe that an immediate, stop-the-presses breakthrough can come from toady's meeting and if a deal had been worked out quietly, Bettman and Fehr would insist that they were front and centre during the final meetings.

Or this guy is just taking a pure guess and saying that there will be a settlement in the next 48 hours with the hopes that something will happen.

If it happens he looks like a genius, if it doesn't , he can always just say his source was incorrect.

It wouldn't surprise me if Jeremy Jacobs leaked it to him, since Jacobs has been getting ripped by some other Boston media lately.

I don't think so. The deal, especially for the players, is going to be very hard to do. I think Bettman and Fehr know that the idea of the players and owners lifting it across the finish line is a strong way of taking the focus off how badly this whole thing has been handled by both sides.

Just saw that TSN is reporting as many as 10 players are going to attend the meeting. Now does anybody really think you can actually do anything with 16 people engaged in a negotiation. Truly wouldn't surprise me. Charlie and Burton are pretty close, and by 'close' I mean that Jacobs is a regular guest on Burton's Sunday night sports show, so it would not be a shock.

They crave eyeballs, but ridicule those new to the game. They want viewership, but whine when certain reporters “that weren’t there two years ago” are covering games. My point here? Hockey fans are jerks to anybody they’re unfamiliar with, and I’ve yet to hear a good case to support such a defensive position towards new and interested people. The only possible comparable dynamic: You’re in high school, tell everybody why Theater 7 is the best theater at the local movie theater, and then berate people for checking it out or showing interest in it.

Im curious what you want to happen with Hamilton if a cba is reached in the next 15-20 days?
Which camp should he attend (bruins or Canada)? Should it be his call? I think he could make the bruins with a good camp.
I asked the same about morgan rielly cause burke stated he'd be invited to the leafs camp but actually making the team is a real far stretch. Hamilton is realistic to be a full season bruin but probably cant do both if a cba is resolved during the jr tournament/camp.
