I think you're kinda overselling this point. January 2nd was both a Federal holiday and NYSE was closed. The vast majority of people who hold jobs with corporate American were not working that day:

not everyone though goes according to that schedual....almost all business/retailers were open that day....Just because wall street is closed doesnt mean the world stop turning. LOL |

I spent part of the game texting pre-promised scoring updates from CBP to people I know who wanted to see the game but had to work.

Stellar job as usual "Big Al"
Happy New Year to you and your family! Thank you for making this unbearable lockout bearable by keeping us connected with the game and each other. |

Good read Bill.
Not sure if it was intentional, but the JVR>Schenn trade was left off the offseason gone awry section. Was their biggest move of the summer. |

Didn't mention it because it remains to be seen how the deal work outs. I focused on things that were clearly not how the Flyers wanted them to go.

Thanks for the extra-long blog this morning! As usual, I enjoyed reading your unique perspective. There is not another writer - in print, online or otherwise - that has your level of knowledge of this team and your ability to translate the same into words. |

Does that mean you have already decided it was a bad trade? |

And not everyone closes on Christmas, either. And I'm sure plenty of people will be working tomorrow as well.
Typically, when Christmas and New Year's fall on a weekend, most employers give either the following Monday or preceding Friday off, depending on when the holiday falls.
I felt Bill oversold that "not a national holiday" point and pointed it out. Many, many more people had off than were working that day.

Good stuff, Bill. I was at that March 18th game versus the Penguins, what an electrifying experience that was. The entire attendance's spirits were severely dampened heading into the third period, the Flyers really had not shown up to play. Thoughts of 'typical Flyers afternoon game' were obviously going around. When they started coming back, though, the crowd got right into it. Spirited verbal exchanges were had in the stands with the Pittsburgh visitors.
During an awkward silence between an end-of-play whistle and the start of music/whatever, I shouted, "Kris Letang is a coward!" in response to him ducking out of a fight he'd instigated. It reverberated throughout the arena, I'm fairly certain he heard me
When Hartnell scored the winning goal with .9 seconds left in OT, dread of a shootout letdown turned into an explosion of excitement. And it was only a sign of the battle to come. |

Nope, I like the trade. Having a brother on the team should push both players and it's a nice bit of added team chemistry.
I just thought bill would have referenced it in the last paragraph of that section. |

I'm with you. I'm looking forward to watching both play in a Flyers uniform. |

Briere should be fine. Haven't heard about an injury to Bryzgalov. Looks like your game is ready for the Season to start! |
