not interested in Tim Thomas. Besides being a wack-job and old, he bailed on his team. If the Flyers choose to get rid of Bryz I'm sure they can come up with a better goalie than Tim Thomas |

Tim Panaccio: Double-header to Start Season? - tpanaccio
No to Thomas. Bryz is a good goalie, let him play and see what happens over the short year. If he stumbles, the compliance buyout is there and they can look at the FA market in July or try to make trade |

I may be completely wrong but I think bryz and briere are locks to get bought out and it's more to do with cap space and the length of bryz contract. It frees up 12.2 for next summer and allows the flyers to retool the defense and gives Schenn, Couturier and Read more ice time up front. |

Don't want anything to do with Thomas. I'd like to see Bryz bought out after the short season unless he leads us to the cup. That contract length is a killer, same as Luongo's deal in Vancity. I can see both being bought out this coming summer.
As Bill pointed out (and my post in his blog a few blogs ago), guys like Howard and Backstrom are scheduled to be UFAs this summer. I'm not saying Detroit and Minny don't re-sign them, just that they may be options. With this 1-week window to talk to pending UFAs, Homer would have time to guage interest from these guys.
If Luongo gets bought out after Gillis doesn't accept Komi and a 5th rounder for him, 4-5 year deal for 4-5 mil sounds perfect to me. |

I don't think you'll see a flury of players bought out. Luongo has a HUGE contract to buy out, he's still owed what 45 Million. Thats a HUGE contract...... I would rather just trade it at a loss then buy out that contract.
As far a Bryz goes, he's one season removed from being an all star in Phoenix. He has the skills, he has the ability, but he has to spend some time out from under the bus. Philly fans are so fast to throw him under the bus. Flyers management traded Bobrovsky, who would have been option 2A, so I think that says they have confidence in him. Goalies confidence and ego's get bruised very easy, he is a classic example. Leave him to just play hockey, put him in the net and tell him to stop pucks, and he will be fine. |

Bryz sucks a fat one. I would rather have the statue of the goalie at section 113 entrance on the ice instead of him. Let's hope to god he is bought out before the first game but expect him to waste another season. - phillyfan91111
And who is your viable replacement?
Did he suck when he was an all star in Phoenix?
Did he suck in March prior to his injury?
Did he suck when the team actually played defense in front of him? |

It's very easy to say "buy Bryz out...". It's very hard to finish the statement and say "... and replace him with ____________". IF there is a viable option at the end of this season, then I guess you do it to get rid of the contract. But after a season and a half with Bryz you will pretty much know the devil you have and it's a risk to jettison said devil for the one you don't know.
Of course, Bryz could make it a mute point by having a great season. Personally, I don't have the confidence that he'll do this, but who knows. |

This summer, Mike Smith, Jimmy Howard and Niklas Backstrom will be UFA. Nobody's getting bought out before the 2013 season. The cap for the short season will be $70.2mm and the Flyers have approx $3.5mm in space.
However, the cap drops to $64mm for 2013-14. That's when we could see movement. I do think Bryzgalov is fully capable of having a very good season, because he's shown an ability to be an elite level goalie(even outside of Dave Tippett's system) and the ability to rebound strongly after a bad season. |

Bryz should be given at least another FULL season to prove himself. He changed conferences and systems when he came to Philly. I'll preface this by saying I know nothing about playing hockey or baseball but I've heard being a goalie in hockey is alot like being a pitcher in baseball. There is an adjustment period when learning the tendencies of new opponents.
It helps that I'm an optomist and think that Bryz can recapture his form from Phoenix. |

He was on a defensive oriented team with a decent defensive core and a goalie coach who seems to be turning everyone he works with into an all-star.
I don't know about you but I expected him to have more than one good month out of the entire season.
Granted, the defense did play poorly in front of him for a majority of the season, and he didn't hesitate to throw them under the bus.
Now I'm not a diehard Bryz hater but by no means has he impressed me enough to justify another 8 years with that cap hit, especially with the cap going down. So I'm hopefull he is able to bounce back with some consistent play and avoid amnesty this summer. |
