Any word on Hartnell? He was noticeably slower after taking that shot in the foot. |

I really believe that the systems in place from the dzone, thru the nuetral zone, to the ozone need to be reworked.
Teams have learned our system. Quick passes makes our forcheck irrelevant and our nuetral zone coverage allows opposing players to do as they please.
The dzone is a complete disaster and has been now since pronger went down. Doesnt helop that we downgraded on offense and defense but kept the expectations for this team just as high, if not higher. |

Let me save MJL the trouble.
What systems are you talking about? What systems do the Flyers use? Systems don't win games you fool! Systems have little effect on teams! |

This. And frankly, it was obvious at the end of last season too.
On paper, does ANYONE think the Devils or the Sabres are that much better, talent-wise, than the Flyers?
If Laviolette doesn't adjust......come on down, Terry Murray.

Bill i was saying the exact same thing last night, that this reminded me of the 06/07 season.Carter and richards were also in their second year.I think the flyers have to stay on course here and let these young guys play through this, even if it means not making the playoffs. It still is early so they have time but man they look awful.I also think even though bryz has not played bad i dont think he fits in with this team, like us fans the players dont trust this guy either would like to see bryz out and luongo in.If they do end up getting a top 5 pick this year plus the free agent list is looking good i can see them being a contender again next year.just my 2 cents. |

One thing I thought was awful was Giroux taking two late selfish penalties. He's the captain and can't be doing that. I was kind of embarrassed when he took the unsportsmanlike minor. I expect more from Claude than Crosby circa 2005-2006. Everyone who watched the game knows the flyers weren't going to come back but having your captain and best player take two needless penalties when your team could (at least theoretically) mount a comeback doesn't help. I get it if they're motivational penalties. (I.e. Simmons attempt to mix it up on Broduer and his fight later) I saw these as signs that Giroux had lost his cool. |

I do.
The Flyers do not have as much talent as some of you think.
Therein lies the problem. |

Problem is not system, it is foot speed.
Good teams manage the neutral zone by keeping a tight space between the forwards and D. This is the way the D can support the attack and control the other team in the neutral zone.
Last night the Devils owned the area between the blue lines. The Flyer D does not have the foot speed to support the attack, control the neutral zone or effectively get the puck out do their own end when they are being hemmed in. |

I think Kimmo's been decent all things considered, but maybe that's just me.
I really don't like that, overall, the games have gotten progressively worse. They just don't look like a cohesive "team". Looked the same last year in games 2-5 against the Devils. Looked like that in the Boston sweep the year before. When these guys are bad, they're downright bad. |

All you need is one D man who plays an up tempo game who leads the counter attack when teams try to push the play through the neutral zone. Coaching or system changes will not fix this problem.
Last night the Devils looked remarkably fast. They are not. The Flyer forwards are as fast or faster. The entire problem is on the blue line. |

I'm waiting for you to tell me what systems the Flyers play? You talk about it constantly. I don't think you have any idea what Hockey systems are, or what the systems the Flyers use. |

It's not foot speed either. They have plenty of speed. They simply aren't playing well.

The Devils looked remarkably fast, because the Flyers lacked effort from the 2nd period on. The best way to move the puck is to pass it, not skate it.

I mistyped my post, and I edited it. I know exactly what Hockey systems are, and basically what systems the Flyers use. I wonder if you do, or if you understand them. If you did, you wouldn't be bringing it up as the problem constantly.

1 player is all we need eh? What happens the other 35 minutes "he" isn't on the ice, assuming this 1 d-man is of the ilk that plays that much a game? |
