Wrong direction. - hobo
I agree. You add someone like Iginla to get over the hump to the Cup. Adding Iginla would be great if the team was playing well but Scott Laughton for a playoff appearance (if we're lucky) and likely early exit is not worth it.

IIsn't Iginla's cap hit 7 mil? How would that fit? Iginla may want to win but that isn't going to happen here. How 'bout not panicing, sounds better then "go get iginla". |

Iginla definitely creates some cap problems. And Calgary is definitely not ready to turn him over for just a first round prospect, especially considering Feaster was ready to pass on him to land the wunderkind Jankowski (snicker). You can bet, unless the Flames landed a proven young center (Schenn, Couturier) for Iginla, the fans would stampede the city center on horseback with torches and pitchforks. |

Amazes me how Eklund keeps you on this site Tim. Did you honestly think this through? |
|
|

Tim, it would cost more than Laughton to get Iginla. Not sure that is the direction you want to go with the team the way it is now. |

Tim you are a frustratingly awful sports writer and personality.
This is the completely wrong direction for this team. |

This suggestion is so bad, it's not even worth discussing. Get Iginla for Laughton. To do what exactly? |

Tim Panaccio: Go Get Iginla - tpanaccio
Jarome Iginla is my all time favorite NHLer that never wore the Orange and Black.
That said, no way I trade Scott Laughton for him right now.
The Flyers have a need for a scoring line winger, for sure. But it's sure as Hell is not the lone need. They could use a good puck moving defenseman, as much as a scoring line winger.
So, a 35 year old, UFA to be for last year's top pick? Especially when Laughton showed he could be a pretty solid NHLer in the future during his 5 game "interview".
The last thing the Flyers should do is trade youth-or draft picks-for 35 year olds with months remaining on their contracts.
Now, if they can get a 25 year old, absolutely. The problem with this suggestion is, it's exactly the kind of counter productive move that Bob Clarke would have made. |

The cap hit would actually be doable...until Meszaros & Hartnell return. |

This team is heading for a top 3 pick. If the turn it around they will be a 15-18 pick. Another couple weeks of no wins it will be time to unload timonen (if possible) and anyone over 35 that is worthy of picks or prospects. Undecided on briere |

It's amazing the kool-aid drinking some bloggers have in doing trade scenarios for getting a player for their team with paying little. Or when trading a good player away that needs a change in scenery and getting ridiculous maximum in return.
Iginla would cost you your Best Prospect + 1st Round Pick + Roster player (top 9 fwd or top 4 dman)
or
Best Prospect + Two 1st Round Picks
This is based on the impact player he is and the career he has had, He is the guy in Calgary and what he has done for Team Canada speaks for itself. |

we can make that deal right? we don't need to get gm's involved because i have no faith in feaster or the flames ownership to do something smart like that. |

Iggy won't be that ... top prospect and a first. I doubt it would be anything more than that, unless a tier B prospect is involved.

Jay Feaster is dumb, but he's not that dumb to take some of Philly's inflated contracts. Flyers can't afford Iggy and Iggy would want to go somewhere that he can win a Cup if he's going anywhere. |

Well, the contract that Tim is suggesting is a $900K a year ELC |

no choice? you have to be (frank)ing kidding me. ridiculous move that presents cap issues. no reason to trade a top prospect for a 35 year old pending UFA when the team is littered with issues.
horrendous suggestion. |

The Flyers only just won their 3rd game of the season. Why would Iginla want to come to a struggling team? I'm sure he has a No Movement clause. If Iggy wants to come to a winner, right now that ain't us. (I'm not saying we are out of it but we ARE at the bottom of the standings.)
I agree with everyone here, I don't think this has be really thought through. |
