Sens have their star players out, and are still winning games.....amazing
going to be a tough game, but this week is a test to see if we belong in the playoff
picture....
Math is pretty simple. Isles need 53 points to make playoffs. So, if they go 12-8-0 (or some equivalent variation) over the last 20 games they should be okay.
My guess is that only 2 of 3 out of the Rangers, Devils and Isles have a shot at making playoffs and it will be decided by the final games of head to head play within the Division.

Should be interesting to see how Toronto, and Ottawa play over the next 20 games.

So the Ducks Ink Corey Perry to 8 years @ $69 million. Between he and Getzlaf, thats $135 million on two players over 8 years. Roughly $17 million per year on the two of them. WOW.

I dont know why but tonights game scare me. I think we lose. We are dangerously close to a playoff spot and this team is out of there comfort zone - kasperrko
This is another one of those benchmark games that the Isles have seemingly come up short so many times over the past few years. A win tonight would put us 1 point out of 6th place.

the next 8 games are key, tough schedule, but it should determine what we do/ or how we stand against playoff teams. The real bad part is, after this tough 8 game schedule, it looks like it gets easier,

That's unreal. It's hard to believe what all these players are making but especially hockey players.

They should have no problem getting up for the next 20 games. It should be playoff hockey from here on in!!! - jimmc7722
Generally agree, but this is a Jack Capuano coached team. It seems like there have been quite a few games over the last couple of years we thought they'd come out flying for only to see them sleepwalk through the game.
This is the time for some of the teams leaders to step up and get these guys going.

im not directing this at you, but when was the last time a game wasnt important? the past 10 games everyone has been saying "Tonights game will tell me if they are for real" then they win/get a point and the same comment is recycled for the next game....
when are people going to believe this team can do it?...whether they get into the playoffs or not is a different story...i think its clear that this years islanders team can compete

They can compete but not with the big boys. Boston, Pittsburgh, even the Flyers. The Isladners are step below in there play.
I know you are going to say that the Flyers are worse then then Islanders but the Islanders cant beat that team regardless

If they need a coach to get them up for a big game... then they should retire.

I think the 'can do it' story is based on if they can make the playoffs. A season is built up of a series of tests throughout the year. I completely agree that this team is capable of getting on a roll and making the playoffs, but the bigger question is can they ultimately sustain success long enough to do just that? We have ONE 4 game winning streak over the last 3 years. At some point they have manage to perform under pressure, not under the radar.

Coaches are always your first and foremost motivator. It's easy for us as fans to say "they're making millions playing a game, they should be focused all the time' but that simply doesn't happen in ANY team sport. Teams come out flat. A good coach see's the dangers of letdown games and does everything he can to keep his team focused. That's not to say the coach is always totally at fault for when a team plays like crap, but if it happens in consistent manners, like coming out dead in the first period, giving up leads late in the third etc, then the coach is failing to keep his guys focused.

if there are 3 teams that the isles cant compete with, id say thats pretty damn solid for a team expected to finish bottom 3 - LetsGoIsles
Fortunately I don't think the Flyers will be a problem. They're simply not the same team they've been over the last three years. As for Boston and Pittsburgh, I'll wait and see. Boston owns us physically so I definitely don't like that matchup but we did show early on that we were completely capable of playing good lockdown hockey on Pittsburgh.
I don't think we're built to last in the playoffs at this point, but our focus should be more on just getting there and giving guys like Tavares, Hamonic, Grabs, Matrin and Cizikas the experience of a playoff series.
