Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: No Need for Rentals - bmeltzer
Bill, your analysis is filled with logic.
However, as previously discussed, the Flyers lack of patience and "win at all costs" mantra from the top of the hierarchical tree may view this team differently.
I don't think they're ready to concede just yet. They're likely waiting for that 4 or 5 game winning streak that could vault the team back into the playoff hunt. They may recall the end of the '09-'10 season as an inconsistent underachiever that just squeaked into the postseason and miraculously made it to the Cup Finals.
They may give it another 2-3 games to see if they can continue winning, before making any moves. |

Makes sense...i just hope the flyers arent stupid enough to pull the trigger on something like that. As for jagr, you are right they could get him in the offseason. No need to trade anything for him. |

Sell, Sell, Sell!
Trading assets for rentals would be criminal, and standing pat and not trading pieces for some picks/young players would be dumb.
This is simple, yet I don't have much faith in Holmgren doing the logical thing. I hope I'm wrong. |

Would this team be in a better position right now if they just re-signed Jagr and Carle instead of going after Weber, Suter and Parise? - Jimmygrazz
Carle has been awful in TB this year, and they totally overpaid for him. I bet Yzerman would like a do over with that contract. |

Why not have faith in Holmgren to do the logical thing. Has his track record on the moves he's made, shown that he tends to not do the logical thing? |

Thank you for this, Bill. Too many people still think that bringing Jagr back would save the Flyers from Oblivion and salvage the season. |

Rebuild mode? - cdjaakkola
Not really, more continuing the rebuild that started when they traded Richards and Carter.
They expected to remain in contention while re-tooling. This year hopefully gives them a shot to pull a Spurs type move and grab a Tim Duncan |

Per @tpanotchCSN, the #Flyers have waived Knuble. That explains Zolnierczyk. |

As much as I admire and respect both Jagr and Morrow, the Flyers should stay out of the trade market for either one of them. In fact, Philadelphia should strongly consider being sellers themselves this season.
This.
The Flyers are 4 - 6 in their last 10 games. Had they flipped that record around or at least not made their losses all seem like carbon copies of their other losses, I could see, maybe, possibly, going after a veteran guy.
Not now. |

All due to respect to DB, the 4th line is commensurate with how he is currently playing 5 on 5. |

Enough to know Carle is a horror show. What has he done to improve their team? |

It's as if Niewendyk floated this rumor himself to create a market for Jagr. |

I keep telling people that we are in year 2 of a rebuild already when they say "blow it up". I'm all for moving veterans but they NEED to keep the core together. Last season was more or less a fluke. |
