Thanks for the comment Cup Nut. I have been to more than 3,000 hockey games over the past 45 seasons and of those only ten ended with a Cup being carried around the ice. Each of those was special to be sure, but the Flyers' first Stanley Cup win in 1974 was (and will always remain) the very best of those.

Hey Scoop, I know it's been a long time, god it's been forever, and memories get cloudy over time, but 5-19-74 was a Sunday not a Saturday. Can't forget the most important day in franchise history.

Right you are Monty. Must be my age catching up with me, it certainly was a steamy Sunday afternoon in May of 1974 which I have now corrected. While I misremembered the day of the week, I will certainly not forget a single second of what happen that day!

Did Shero "always say it" or was it something he came up with that day to write on the chalkboard?

Thanks in advance.

Freddy wrote it on the chalk board in the Flyers' room prior to game six of the 1974 finals, but I also heard him repeat it on a few other occasions about that game. Freddy also earlier coached teams to Cup titles in various other pro leagues (St. Paul in the IHL twice, Buffalo in the AHL, Omaha in the CHL) and may well have used it then as well. It's hard to define what the expression "always say it" means in this context but he certainly always believed it no matter how many times he may have said (or written) it.

As you may be aware, Freddy was famous for saying very little directly to his players but instead usually communicated with them through notes left in their stalls, wrote things on the chalk board, or had assistant coach Mike Nykoluk talk to them one on one. I once asked defenseman Larry "Izzy" Goodenough what he thought of Freddy after Larry had been here for a year or two and his response was: "I couldn't really tell you as I've never met the man."

I hope you do too MasWE. There has been only one pro hockey championship in Ontario since 1967 (the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs in 2007) and that just should not be.

Not as Fake Air Jordans. The shoe rests on a black midsole and neon green and gray outsole — the brightest design feature on the sneaker — while matching black laces tie it together for a clean finish.
