In all seriousness though. I expect Bryz to be retained for next season, with Mason as the back-up. I Bryz to start 55-65 games, with Mason getting around 25 starts.
The hope is that Mason re-discovers his form by next summer, allowing us to buy Bryz out then. I'm guessing we buyout Briere this summer to gain the cap space to address the defense, and be cap compliant.
If both goalies are not the answer after next season, we start fresh in goal. |

Tim Panaccio: On Compete, Mason, Bryz, Et Al - tpanaccio
Tim, is there a possibility that Briere never plays again?
He's 36 years old and got a concussion...history shows us players who get concussions at that age usually shut 'er down.. |

Unless something glaringly obvious comes along that is cheaper and markedly better than Ilya, Dont expect any movement until after next season. There are some people who are Poo-Pooing Mason but he is only 24 and lets face it, we as hockey fans have ALL seen brilliant rookie goalies screw the pooch for 2,3 and even more seasons before hitting their place of stability and having great careers....All we can do is stay tuned..... |

i also inquired about Cory Schneider, but i guess we all know how that worked out. Gotta nab these studs before they're household names |

You know how you nab those studs before they're household names? You draft them. And they have to be available to "nab" them. So really don't see your point.

Why couldn't they explore trading Danny B in the off season? Instead of buying him out. That would be my first attempt in freeing up money. |

except that everyone else knows that if they wait, the flyers will have to buy him out and he can then be signed for less.
So unless some other team REALLY wants him, they can sit and wait and not give up anything. |

They can do that. But it has to be before the draft. But if teams have an idea that he's going to be bought out, they'll wait. Plus he has the NMC. |

Thought he couldn't be amnestied unless he was cleared to play? |

They can, but what if they can't trade him? Then the buyout period is over, and your stuck with him. If you really want to move Briere, one way or the other, then you have to do it before the buyout period is over. That way if a trade is unsuccessful, you can use the amnesty buyout. |

With the horrible play against the Jets today, Bryz included, the team should head in another direction with the goalie situation. Bryz was let go by the Ducks for a reason, and it wasn't just salary concerns. I really am concerned about his mental state, and what he says. I don't think many of the guys on the team feel confident in his abilities, and do not care for his locker room presence. As I have watched every Flyers game this season, I have seen too many things go wrong with Bryz. I find myself holding my breath every time that there is a breakaway, a 2 on 1 or a shoot out. It even looks like he quits during the tough times of a game. On occasion, he does show solid play, but not enough for me.
I hate to say it, but Mason says the right things, and presents a better personality in the locker room. I also think that the team will support him once he starts playing on a regular basis. Mason has something to prove, and looks hungry right now. He is even willing to take a pay cut. How many guys would be bold enough to say, "I will get paid when I prove that I can play?"
A word to Lavy. Play Mason from here on out. See how he plays under pressure. I bet the team would be surprised about how he plays. In addition, in the off season, go after a "real" back up. Quit supporting the goalies that belong in the minors; sorry Boosh, and Mike. Or, maybe we have a real NHL backup goalie on the Phantoms already...I can hope can't I? Oh, and don't forget some stable defense men; all of ours are hand me downs or are broken...lol. |

How can you state that you don't care for Bryzgalov's locker room presence, or that Mason presents a better personality in the locker room. Without actually being in the locker room?
