My God, are we really this downright dumb in Boston?
Ty, if I remember right...you don't drink, right? |

Haha no beer for me unless it's root beer. And even then, I prefer water or an Arizona! |

We are that drunk in Boston... But I would like to see the team hit this "other level" they like to champion during interviews. The sky is not falling but, their is play is unsettling. |

Unfortunately for Boston in the now, who had at one point hoped for the 27-year-old Soderberg to be wiht the club by this weekend, the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation decided to block the 2012-13 Swedish Elite League’s leading scorer from coming over to don the Black-and-Gold right now. Essentially holding the 6-foot-3 forward hostage so that he can play for Sweden during the World Championships, and infuriating the Swede in the process, the Soderberg the Bruin chapter may have to wait until at least May 15 if Sweden has their say -- or perhaps Sept. 2013 if there’s no way for Soderberg and the B’s to work around the SIHF’s decision. So there you have it.
If the Bruins signed him before the season, he would have been able to play for the Bruins right now.
But that's how the rules are. They didn't "block" anything. |

Here's to hoping we get Toronto in the 1st round, that is a guaranteed win for the B's. Plus the whole Seguin/Hamilton/Kessel thing is always fun to watch. |

My thing here is that I think this team is still a lock to be skating well into the second round of the playoffs. I could be wrong, sure, but it's hard to find a team with more 'fixable flaws' than Boston. There's nothing fatal about their woes right now.. unless Bergeron doesn't come back. They lost last night's game 'cause of a goal that barely squeaked through Rask. I'm not too worried, and I don't think people should sound too many alarms. |

The SIHF blocked the transfer. That's the word they chose to use. |

It was "blocked" because of the current rules in place between the NHL and the SIHF. They didn't just decide that player "X" isn't going to North America for whatever reason.
it's your GM's job to know these things. |

They're aware of these things according to everyone I've talked to. They knew that getting the SEL's top scorer out of Sweden before the WC's would be difficult. Soderberg's expected to defect over to the NHL anyways. He already told the SIHF that he has no interest playing for them at the WCs. I'm just pointing out that it's not going to be an easy of a process as the B's thought. |

yeah its more KHL style to 'BLOCK'
it seems the SEL is simply excercising their rights based on the rules
of course alianating their player is kinda dumb too |

I understand the SIHF's position. The Predators were shafted by Radulov and I'd say most leagues try to avoid such incidents. |

You're really digging in on semantics here aren't you?
Soderberg has no obligation to play for Team Sweden, SIHF has a right to not sign the transfer card ... everyone knew that, including Chiarelli (despite your silly barb) as he's said all along there were hurdles to jump to get him over to NA. It boils down to the SIHF attempting to force a player to play in a tournament he has no obligation to play in and has chosen not to (like dozens of players from most participating countries) play in and could essentially cost him a year of UFA and his $500k signing bonus. There's no matter of principal here ... this situtation would come up so rarely that chances are it will never happen again, more likely they're just trying to squeeze out more transfer fees from Jacobs and the B's. |

The good news, Rayven: They have Ward-less Carolina tomorrow night, Ottawa on Monday night. Those are four pick-me-up points if they .. y'know.. get a good night's sleep. |

I agree Ty, I think this team is a lock for the 2nd round. The only team I could see giving them trouble in a 1st round matchup would be the Rangers and we would have to take the 2nd seed for that. I honestly would tater see them stay at the 4 seed and play either Toronto, Ottawa or the Islanders. Better matchup for the Bruins. If healthy, this team could beat Pitt or Mtl or at the very least push them to 7 games. |

I was talking about this with a fellow writer last night (Mike Miccoli, who does awesome work for the Hockey Writers), and we both agreed that the four might be the best case scenario for Boston. You're talking about a series with the Sens/Leafs, two clubs you've absolutely owned over the past what, three years now? Moving into the two seed could put you in a scenario where you're battling Henrik Lundqvist (a death sentence) and the Rangers, traveling to Winnipeg twice, or taking on a younger Islanders squad that's intent on proving that they can hang. |

I agree Mike writes great stuff. For the most the Bruins have great writers, especially the bloggers. 4 seed is the way to go. After that your probably looking at a matchup with the Canadiens, which would be one for the ages. Going to be tough for the Bruins to make it to the finals, but I have confidence in Rask and the health of this team will come around.
Any reason why Redden hasn't gotten a look yet? I know he's been in the dog house for a few years, but the guys has played over 1,000 games and I think can still bring it. |

I've been waiting to see Redden get in a game for three games now. Ideally you'd like to get him in for at least two so that he can be prepared if he's called upon in the playoffs for some reason. Gotta learn the system beyond practice. |
