Curious what Jake did to be selected Best Player of Game on the Czech side? With only 1 shot I would assume he played a stellar two-way game?
Thanks as always to Bill for these updates. |

His mom picked the stars of the game...or maybe it was Lisa Hillary. After all she once picked Jay Rosehill as a star of the game when all he did was fight a guy |

Glad to see Noebels getting ice time.
Can't imagine who Germany has out there that they can afford to sit a young skill guy like Noebels.
Also, I'm torn on these Game 7's tonight. I want to root for the teams with the best chance of taking out the Penguins should the Senators prove not good enough. |

Yeah, but Bryz likes Hillary's fashion sense, so it's all good. |

He had several shifts were the Canadians couldn't get the puck away from him and set up a pair of good scoring chances. To be honest, though, he was also invisible for stretches in the portions of the game I saw. |

It is common for young players -- all but the big stars -- to have to work their way up to gain ice time for the national team just as they would for their clubs in pro leagues. Cortina would rather go with more experienced players for the most part.
At least when Noebels and his linemates got some shifts yesterday, they stood out in a positive way -- and so they got rewarded with a lot more ice time than the fourth line had been getting in the previous games.

I'm hoping that Stolarz' benching doesn't hurt his confidence. Kid is looking like a possible stud. |

If he can't rebound from a minor setback, then he was never going to be a stud.

Maybe, but it's probably going to be a long process to get him there. He's come a long way in the last year but still has a long way to go to turn that size and athleticism into NHL-caliber goaltending.
He'll play next year back in the OHL, then probably need at least two AHL seasons, then you have to get him through the NHL learning curve. I figure if he's going to someday emerge as the Flyers' starter, that day won't come for another five or six seasons from now.
That said, he has the tools, work ethic and smarts to make it happen. |

Furthermore, that demotion Pelle was given was done even after having played in the NHL All Star game (and getting shelled) in 1983 as I recall. (I would defer to Bill on the specifics...) |

Why is Shero sooo much better GM than Homer ?
Even with Flower being horrid every single playoffs after they won the cup, Shero still is far better at asset management than Homer.. what gives ?

It will be interesting when Letang and Malkin both need new deals a year from now and he can't give them a cap circumventing contract like the one Crosby has. |

Shero was handed a team that already had crosby malkin and fluery. Just about any gm could winn with that stacked deck. |

Agreed that Ray Shero is better than Homer at winning draft lotteries. |

And to be blunt, Shero hasn't won. Since 2009, the Penguins have won two playoff series. |

So, Shero is not even better than Homer at fake ping pong ball counting.
Quick question: If Pittsburgh doesn't win the Cup this year, do either of Morrow or Iginla re-sign to play there? |

I doubt it, they need to resign malkin and letang soon. |

Shero is by far an inferior GM. To name a few:
Gifted Crosby and Malkin.
Took Jordan Staal over Jonathan Toews in the draft. (I understand the rationale for doing it, just wholeheartedly disagree with it)
Grossly overpaid for stiffs Douglas Murray and Brendan Morrow this past deadline. Overpaid for Iginla, too (relative to what the Bruins gave up for Jagr).
Overvalued and overpaid MAF.
To be fair, had some good moves though, too: the Pascal Dupuis/Hossa trade. Signing Vokoun. Building a strong defense. James Neal trade.

He's not that bad, but he's failed to have a good playoff run, despite having two of the 5 best players in the world on his roster. He's made some fantastic trades on paper, that haven't been enough to push them over the top.
He's made a lot of big, bold moves that haven't gotten his team to the mountaintop.
His draft record isn't that great, with Jordan Staal being the lone player drafted under Shero to play more than 100 NHL games. In fact, in the last 5 years, the Penguins have drafted 3 players that have even seen a NHL shift-and one of those was Alexander Pechurski, who played 36 minutes in goal for the Pens in 2009-10
