I think Briere is tradeable..as long as the Flyers take a poopty contract in return. He could help someone. |

Flyers would be better off using the compliance buyout then.

What are the odds that Briere simply retires if the Flyers buy him out? |

In all honesty, they should be buying out Hartnell and Bryz, not Danny, assuming the ultimate goal is to win the Cup in the near future. - Tomahawk
Bryzgalov you can make a case for. Suggesting that they should buy out Hartnell is a really bad idea. For one, he's still a valuable player to the team, and his Cap hit isn't that high. Two, he most definitely has solid trade value around the League, if you chose to move in a different direction.

If he doesnt retire and he really wants to stay in the general area for the kids, then are we looking at Briere possibly with the Caps, Devils, Rangers, or Islanders?
Ick.

What about trying to trade Bryzgalov to the Islanders, they need a goalie and i would take a second or a third rounder to free up that space and save a buyout. Make Mason your starter and find a good back up. Maybe then you could keep Briere and try and trade Coburn and try to get a D-man, perhaps Edler from Vancouver.? Just an idea |

To trade Bryz and that contract, the Flyers would have to include a pick. Don't expect the Flyers to get anything of value in return for trading him.

Garth Snow has made a career of being at the salary floor not the salary cap.
What will be interesting to see is if this might be the year that the Isles come up off the salary floor at all and pick up anyone of talent who is jettisoned by their team as the salary cap is adjusted downwards. |

By all means, trade him, buy him out, rocket him to the moon, whatever gets him off the team and off the ledger.
Nobody embodies the lack of discipline, inattention to detail, boneheadedness, and casual two-way play that has plagued the Flyers for years more than Hartsy. |

Bill, nice job as always summaizing the situation.
I was not aware of the South Jersey compoent in the Briere situation. I had been thinking that Columbus another team that need to take on some cap without the spending per se might have been good fit. Now, not so much.

If they trade Bryzgalov, the cap recapture issue still is a factor.
It's better if they used a CBO on Bryzgalov and could possibly trade Briere. I just don't see anywhere Briere would agree to waive for, when he can still get most of the money on his current deal, plus more money on a new contract, if he's bought out.

I'm more open to moving Hartnell now than at any time in his Flyers career.
I disagree with using a CBO on him, because I think he's got trade value and could get a good return. |

US beats Russia 8-3. - Jsaquella
I turned it off at 4-1. I kind of liked the snarl that TJ Oshie and Jacob Trouba played with in the 2nd period, though.
Nate Thompson's goal looked like another softie for the Bryz. |

Agreed. The CBO is really only for completely untradeable players. Hartnell could likely catch a 1st and a decent prospect to the right team. |

If my memory serves correctly when asked Danny didnt seem to have any issue with playing the whole season in Berlin if the lockout continued. Are we sure he still wouldn't go anywhere else besides to the Devils or Isles? |

Buyout Briere, he isn't going to accept a trade and nor should he. A buyout is by far in his best financial and professional interest.
Also buyout Bryz, he simply isn't a good enough goalie to be worth both the hassle and a 5.7 million cap hit for another 7 years.

If you buyout Briere there is no reason to get Bryz off the cap too. This FA pool is weaker than weak. Makes no sense to buyout both right now. That is to say as long as you are't making a trade where you're taking on a ridiculous amount of salary back. |

I think you can make a case that Hartnell lacks discipline, and when he struggles, tends to get boneheaded in an attempt to make something happen. But casual play, I disagree with. Hartnell always plays with heart and fire. And suggesting to move him just to move him, is a bad suggestion. He's a key player on this team. I'd be open to moving him for the right return to add a greater need. But to just cast aside as you suggest. No thanks. |

My gut feeling is that Bryzgalov is coming back. But I would not be shocked if the Flyers decide to buy him out. Roll the dice with Mason, and add a cheap veteran backup. Something that they would do. They're risk takers. |
