Hm. I feel like Miller needs to be included to move up in the draft. Let's just say The Sabres not only fail to move into the top 5 but also Miller let's Darcy know he wants out without making a media circus of it. And let's say Minny wants Miller. Trade options.
-Miller and a 2nd for Jonas Brodin/Matt Dumba
-Miller and Stafford and a 2nd for Brodin/Dumba and Setoguchi
Few other decent options but making this trade will allow the Sabres to pick upa top defensive prospect, allowing them to use their picks on elite forwards who can score. Also with that second proposal. We basically save a million bucks. Not that it matters, but Stafford can go play with Parise now cause they're all BFF and stuff.
No need to flame, but counter offers are certainly welcome. Just tossing ideas around. |

From the last blog...
I think we keep Vanek now... after doing a lot of reading around the internet and really seeing what people think about it.... Unless Vanek out right demands a trade.. I think we keep him until AT LEAST the deadline...
Miller is as good as gone. .and I think stafford gets flipped for an experienced played like Okposo or Burmistov (WPG guy).
I am really curious of how this team is going to fill its lines....
Vanek - Hodgson - ??
Ott - Ennis - Grigorenko (Maybe?.. I think Ennis could be traded)
Foligno - ?? - Flynn (Maybe Larsson in there or Girgensons by mid year)
Gerbe - Porter - Kaleta
Scott
Where does Leino fit in? Where does Stafford fit in or who he is traded for?
-JVince
I think Vanek and Miller are traded
No one is going to take on Leino's contract, and he was decent in limited time for us, so I think they keep him this year
Stafford will prob also be here, bc no one will give us a good enough offer to move him... Our best hope is he has a bounce back year & we can move him at the deadline for something decent
Without any major acquisitions, I see opening night looking something like this...
Foligno-Hodgson-Tropp... Both played on Hodgson's line in Roch during the lockout
Leino/Ott-Ennis-Stafford/Flynn
Ott/Leino-Grigorenko-Flynn/Stafford
Gerbe-Porter-Kaleta
-McCormick
-Scott
Yikes, I know...
But it let's Armia, Girgensons & Larsson develop a bit more in Rochester, at least to start
And also factoring in a Miller trade....
It's looking like we'll be drafting in the top3 next year
Which I'm actually ok with
Gonna be a rough year though |

To make both Miler and Vanek more appealing to teams (ESP those like Philly, Pitt, etc that will spend to the cap limit)...
I think the Sabres may retain half their salary/cap#
That will get more teams involved and get us a better return |

Did you doubt Goose would fetch a first as well?
They have no ammo that the sabres want, which are high picks. Sabres want quality prospects and young players. If Miller is being moved for a player, you can bet it'll be one of those two defensemen |

I bet those guys were brought up by Regier when they wanted Pominville and they said "Hell No!"
I'm also guessing Granlund would be "untouchable"
I'd like any of those 3 though |

GARTH: Wild Need #1 Goalie - garth
The Wild ranked Darcy Kuemper a little bit higher than Matt Hackett, which is why they could afford to include Hackett in the Pominville trade. They also have Gustafson coming over from Sweden to split time in the AHL.
They will definitely be in the market for a starting goalie if they chose not to resign Backstrom, but I bet they keep him. Harding and Kuemper would split backup / AHL duties. |

I made the assumption that Granlund was untouchable, plus he's not a position of need (Grigs hopefully/probably 2 years of development behind him)
But yes, I'd love to have him.Send them Ennis as well. |

When did Miller become a bonafide #1 goaltender? - keatondixon
Either when he basically single-handedly won the US a Silver Medal at the Olympics, or where he almost single-handedly won the Sabres the 2011 playoff series against Philly. |

I think Briere had as much to do with those runs as Miller did. But in those instances, Miller's the reason they had the chance at all. |

You are high as a kite if you think Minnesota would part with Brodin or Dumba when they are tying to build up their D core. Especially Brodin who I think deserved the Calder this year.
Also, The Wild are tight to the cap and probably can't take on a salary like Miller's unless they peel off a player like Heatley at $6m a year. Which it exactly why they were hot on Raanta. |
